Dear Creative Arts Therapists,

The NAMI walk on Saturday, May 12th is only 12 DAYS AWAY! And therefore, let me give you this list of

12 Fantastic Reasons to Walk in NAMI WALKS 2012:

You will be showing support for your clients with every footstep!

You will be raising money from the very important National Alliance on Mental Illness.

You get to buy and wear your SUPER AWESOME DRAMA THERAPY T-SHIRTS!

You will be telling the world that it is not shameful to be diagnosed with mental illness.

You get to tell the world what drama therapy is and why it is important.

Every dollar you raise will go to wonderful use: $10=Training for one support parent in the Parent Matching Program $25= A NAMI Basics course for one caregiver $50= Peer-to-Peer class materials for 10 participants $100= Three " In Our Own Voice " presentations by people living with mental illness in a range of public settings $250= Three public education events $500= Meals for 100 consumers at weekend support groups $1,000= Family-to-Family classes for 90 participants

You will probably get to hold a banner or sign...what could be better?

You will get to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge! Such an essential NY activity.

You will get to hang out with other delightful creative arts therapists!

NETWORKING!

You get to ask your loved ones and family to show their support for your career and professional identity by asking them to donate to this cause.

Obviously, it will be a great time. (And, remember, the t-shirts!)

Each year the National Alliance on Mental Illness hosts this walk to support mental health by reducing the stigma associated with mental illness and raise funds for NAMI's free support and education programs for families and individuals living with mental illness.

We at the NADT Tri-State Chapter feel that not only is such an event a great way to give visibility to drama therapy and the greater creative arts therapy field, but we feel that it is a wonderful and important way to show support for the clients we work with every day.  Our fundraising goal was initially set at $1000 but we've already flown by it! We're close to making our second goal of $2000...can we make $2500 in the next 12 days??  So please consider joining our team, raising some funds for NAMI, and showing pride for your profession and your clients.

ALSO, with great excitement we bring you drama therapy t-shirts! These t-shirts will not only be worn at the NAMI walk, but since there is no NAMI logo on them they can be worn at any time to show off your pride about being a drama therapist.  The front says " I am a drama therapist " and the back has the definition of drama therapy as given by the NADTA.  They will be gray with blue lettering, and we're selling them for $15. Email us at tristatechapter@... to order YOUR shirt today. Let the world know who you are!

Sincerely,

Geisert on behalf of the NADT Tri-State Chapter
