It will eventually be every other child, unless we realize the vaccines are causing all disease "labels". Someone on our database sent us the statistic and I googled "S Korea's tests on autism" and there are many other links available. It's impossible to have a genetic epidemic and if its better diagnosis, then where's all the autistic adults??? The only genetic connection is from generational vaccines and it's so important we wake up the misinformed masses to truth. Guest guest
I also wonder about their vitamin D level because autistic kids that got tested for it turned out to be very low. Unfortunately, most doctors don't even know much about vitamin D so they are rarely ever tested unless you are really sick. The guideline for testing vitamin D needs to be updated badly. Nothing changed for the past 30 years despite high numbers of new of studies showing that it is much more important for your health than previously thought. Vitamin D is crucial to brain development but I don't know about higher functioning type (asperger) because I haven't seen anything about vitamin D deficiency and asperger. Although tested in small numbers, autistic kids responded to vitamin D therapy very well at very little cost. I wonder what their immunization schedule is like? Guest guest
Louis, How would you get your child tested for vitamin D? Just go to the regular doctor? How much do our kids need? Thanks, Marilyn
Guest guest
You can start by reading this - http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/health/autism/autism-information.shtml - Open minded doctors will test your kid for it but you may have to pay out of your pocket. Cheapest is to order a blood kit from that website and you prick your kid's finger and a drop of blood is all that is needed, I think. The chances are that your kid is deficient in it anyway so no sense of getting a test right away. After 3 months of vitamin D supplement, test to see where it is and adjust accordingly. If you can afford it, go for it to find out how low it is and track the progress from it. Dr. Cannell may be willing to help you out. He just retired from his job and now is putting in a lot more time in helping out with autistic kids. From the website:QUICK INFO: To lower risk of autism, Dr. Cannell recommends at least 5,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day for pregnant women. For autistic children, Dr. Cannell recommends at least 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 per every 25 pounds of body weight per day, with frequent monitoring of 25(OH)D, targeting 100 ng/mL (250 nmol/L). Make sure you read everything on that link esp the case reports to get an idea of what to expect. It isn't just autism, vitamin D deficiency causes wide spread problems such as asthma, bad allergies, bone weakness, diabetes type one, cancer, autoimmune like MS, etc. Ever since, I started taking 5000IU a day, my allergies literally disappeared. No more sinus infection. Rarely got cold or flu. It isn't just a vitamin that you get from food because it isn't. It is prehormone that your skin produces in large quantity when exposed to the sun. Much higher than what doctors recommend (don't blame them; they just don't know much). Your body converts vitamin D into powerful hormone (same class as testosterone and estrogen) and does so many things in the body. Practically the whole body need it for something. It appears to be gene regulator turning off or on as needed. The rate of autism seems to start going up when the sun scare started to get us to avoid sun or lather tons of sunblock lotion which prevent skin from producing vitamin D. That turned out to be a colossal mistake on their part. They probably had no idea that we really needed that much vitamin D at that time. They are slow to catch up to latest studies on vitamin D unfortunately. The biggest clue is that lactating mothers needed 6400 IU a day to be able to produce vitamin D rich milk. For a long time, we used to be the only mammal that could not produce vitamin D rich breast milk till the clinical study came along a few years ago to show us that we need much more. For a long time, our body was starving for vitamin D. Hope this help. Louis, How would you get your child tested for vitamin D? Just go to the regular doctor? How much do our kids need? Guest guest
http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/vitaminDToxicity.shtmlVery rare. It takes MUCH MORE for that to happen. 5000 IU a day for healthy adults is nothing considering that you get a lot more from the sun standing outside for 30 minutes without sunblock. Not only that, our body will destroy excess by just standing in the sun. Your body will keep it under control when exposed to the sun but nobody ever spend time in the sun between 10am and 2pm round year anyway due to jobs, school, comfort of A/C in house during hot weather, etc. Not to mention sun scare and air pollution blocking UVB sunlight. 97% of USA population aren't getting enough to see maximum health benefits from vitamin D. Guest guest
How is that working out? For how long? Does he make sure to keep his vitamin D level within 80-100 ng/ml range? Another thing is that too much preformed vitamin A can interfere with vitamin D's function and that Vitamin A should be from beta carotene so that the body will convert it to real vitamin A as needed much like the body does with vitamin D into hormone as needed. Guest guest
How much does your daughter weigh? 400 IU isn't very much. 6000IU is about what your husband (and most males) should be getting every day. For adult females need 4,000-5,000 IU a day depending on their weight. My soon to be 6 years old daughter is taking 2000 IU a day but kids with chronic illness like autism, asthma, etc should double the amount. My husband takes 6000iu per day and was on previously 50000 per week to bolster him up. Thanks, Marilyn

Guest guest
Yes, it is a little low. For some reason Dr. Looker from CDC says that less than 12 ng/ml is " at risk of vitamin D Deficiency " . Apparently she did not do a very good job at researching vitamin D. http://www.naturalnews.com/032202_vitamin_D_deficiency_disease.html I am hoping that the doctors with common sense will ignore Dr. Looker's ridiculous paper. Many people say that they were seriously ill at that level so that make no sense. Guest guest
There were several problems with this study. 1. It assumed that all children in disability classes were autistic. That is simply not true. Kids with all kinds of disabilities exist and not all of them are autistic. 2. Only 1/4 of the children studied got a full evaluation and those that did were mostly given and autism dx. 3. To answer your question about where the autistic adults are - there are many of them around - some were never dxed, some have been dxed as adults. My son is probably on the spectrum, but he is a successful chemical engineer. Guest guest
That is not enough. From Vitamin D Council website - For autistic children, Dr. Cannell recommends at least 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 per every 25 pounds of body weight per day, with frequent monitoring of 25(OH)D, targeting 100 ng/mL (250 nmol/L). (For kids with no health problem, it's 1000 IU per every 25 lbs of body weight). To treat disease, you have to go with higher amount. 4,000 IU a day is about right. Are you aware that conventional treatment for vitamin D deficiency for adult is 50,000 IU a day (over 7000 IU a day) for 2 months? She is about 40 or 42 lbs..... That is what her physician recommended and it is like pulling teeth to get it done! For autistic children, Dr. Cannell recommends at least 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 per every 25 pounds of body weight per day, with frequent monitoring of 25(OH)D, targeting 100 ng/mL (250 nmol/L ). I am not treating a deficiency in my child, I am going on a recommendation of a pediatrician. I also am not anywhere near as active at the supplements and such as most people on this list. I was just giving what I was doing, not to be bashed or ridiculed for what I have chosen to do for my child. Guest guest
I am not bashing you. I am simply providing more accurate information because most doctors tend to lack enough knowledge in vitamin d ESP when it comes to dosing.
