Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend's uncle. If he has passed from cancer she can go to Gilda's Club at no cost. You can also call EGPS and they should have bereavement groups. Best, Sara Rothstein www.artofparenting.net

Guest guest
All the best to your friend in her process. I am a huge fan of psychodrama groups--I have found from personal experience and working with clients that grief and depression (like so many emotions) are often held in the body. I love pychodrama groups for the group compassionate witnessing and doubling so as not to feel alone and psychodramatist that use body based work in groups--tremendously helpful. I highly recommend Louise Lipman, you can find her easily online. She is a great body based psychodramatist and runs a few weekly groups. I also recommend Nan Nally-Seif. She has a few weekly groups. while they might not have grief groups, they would have groups in which depression and loss would be commonly help issues. I am sure there are many modalities that apply to grief and loss--I just have found incredible healing with psychodrama around my own depression and grief. Guest guest
Hospices have bereavement support groups. Call the bereavement coordinator. In Brooklyn, there is Caring Hospice, Metropolitan Jewish Hospice, Compassionate Care Hospice. I work for Hospice of NY which is in Long Island City, . She can contact Walter and ask for a referral. Additionally, she might consider contacting a homeopath or self-medicating with a remedy called ignatia. This remedy is indicated for grief reactions. I have taken this remedy in the past, and it really helped reduce the emotional charge so I could have clarity yet still process my emotions. Also, I practice energy and spiritual healing. She is welcome to look at my site. If she is spiritually inclined, sometimes channeled messages are comforting to the mourner to let her know she is loved, not forgotten, and not alone. She might also consider music therapy as a treatment modality. Interventions such as improvisation and song writing would help her express her grief. -- Shoshana AverbachLMSW, MA, MT-BC, LCAT, Accredited Healerhealingnotes.com Listen to my CD at cdbaby.com/shoshanaaverbach
Guest guest
Dear JenniWell since whether her spiritual interest is questionable, I would suggest that while you and she look for bereavement groups or other options, she consider doing something like acupuncture to begin to just balance her energy system. One can feel pretty lousy if the energy system is out of balance due to trauma. I know of a very good acupuncturist in Fort Green who takes insurance, should that be of interest. It can be amazing how much relief one can get just from a few sessions. All the best,Gaye--- En date de : Dim 19.8.12, Jenni Graham a écrit :De: Jenni Graham Objet: Re: Help with Grieving...À: "NYCCAT " <NYCCAT >Date: Dimanche 19 août 2012, 23h54 My friend is located in Brooklyn for those who inquired. Guest guest
The Visiting Nurse Services of NY has a great bereavement groups. There is one specifically for the loss of parents/guardians. I found it so healing to attend this small group led by a caring social worker Vince Corso. Guest guest
Marisa,Thank you so much for sharing this info with me based on your experience. I appreciate the honesty ;o). I am currently spoon feeding info to my friend as not to overwhelm her too much. I also am not sure if she would be comfortable with body based therapies as of yet. But, I may check out the women you mentioned for myself. I am finishing up my MPS in Art Therapy at Pratt and have found that I really have an appreciation for working through emotions via the body experience. I have found it fascinating and freeing! Thank you again and take care!!!Jenni To: "NYCCAT " <NYCCAT > Sent: Sunday, August 19, 2012 10:29 PM Subject: Re: Help with Grieving... All the best to your friend in her process. Guest guest
I wrote to Jenni as well but to clarify for others, it's EGPS- Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society. And as a friend to someone mourning a loss I've offered ignatia amara (holistic, can purchase in a health food store or on line) for grief, and aromatherapy (the latter has helped my own mother a lot, surprisingly!). Guest guest
Dear All, It has been interesting and helpful to read about the various suggestions for bereavement groups and approaches towards coping with grief... I think others, not just Jenni's friend may benefit from this thread! My suggestion, if a Zen/Buddhist approach appeals to this person or others(you don't have to be Buddhist to attend at all, but the contemplative approach is Buddhist inspired in the work that this group does), I would highly recommend this 8 week series: http://zencare.org/archives/zennews/8-week-mindfulness-based-bereavement Wonderful leaders and an outstanding organization. They also have other great programs that may appeal to folks. Guest guest
I am grateful for this thread, as well, as I'm grieving an impeding (but not quite near) loss. In this light I have formed a group that I participate in and am thinking of holding one for others, if there are enough particapants/ recipients of this service. It's a monthly grieving group for those who are *Daughters of Mothers who are ill or deteriorating as they are aging*. It's in Brooklyn. Please contact me for any further information.
