Dance/Movement Therapy at the Nexus of Self and Community

DATE: JUNE 6, 2012 GUEST SPEAKERS: MEG CHANG AND MARIA RIVERA

Meg Chang, Ed.D., LCAT, NCC, BC-DMT, is a board-certified dance/movement therapist who performs with Intermedia artist Elaine Summers. Her scholarly focus is on developing multicultural and diversity competencies in the creative arts therapies. She currently teaches in New York and at the Somatic Psychology Program of the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco.

" Mara " , MA, LCAT, BC-DMT; is a native of Puerto Rico, is a board-certified and licensed dance/movement therapist in private practice with adults, a professional dancer and performer, and a researcher in the healing aspects of Afro-Caribbean dance and its implications for western dance/movement therapy practices.

Carol Merle-Fishman, MA, CMT, LMHC, LCAT, is licensed in creative arts therapy and mental health counseling, with certifications in music therapy, clinical transactional analysis, and integrative psychotherapy. She is a trainer/ supervisor for the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association, and on the faculty of the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy in Vancouver, BC. She is in private practice in Cortlandt Manor, New York.

  

Creating Visual Communities: Art Therapy Directives that Connect our Clients

DATE JUNE 20, 2012 GUEST SPEAKER: KELLEY LINHARDT

Kelley Linhardt, MA LCAT ATR-BC, is a Brooklyn-based licensed creative arts therapist. She currently splits her time between a large inner-city high school drop-out prevention program and the counseling center at The New School. Ms. Linhardt received her MA in Art Therapy from New York University, is certified in cross-cultural trauma intervention by the International Trauma Studies Program of Columbia University, and is in training at the Ackerman Institute for the Family. She is interested in developing practices to grow resilient families and communities through shared creative experiences.

  

Theatre for Change: Applying Drama and Theatre to the healing of individuals and communities.

DATE: JUNE 27, 2012 GUEST SPEAKER: ROBERT LANDY

Landy, Ph.D., RDT-BCT, LCAT, is a pioneer in the profession of Drama Therapy, he lectures and trains professionals internationally. As a drama therapist, Landy has more than 35 years of clinical experience. He is currently teaching at NYU, as a Professor of Educational Theatre and Applied Psychology and Director of the Drama Therapy Program, which he founded in 1984. He has also produced numerous books, articles, films and plays in the fields of Drama, Drama Therapy, Musical Theatre and related topics. He has also won numerous awards, like a Fulbright to teach in Lisbon.

  

The field of creative arts therapy is rapidly gaining recognition as an essential component of health care. By tapping into the deeply expressive aspects of body, mind, and spirit through such modalities as music, sound, imagery, role playing, and movement, the therapist facilitates self-actualization and healing within the therapeutic relationship.

This lecture series is presented by the Creative Arts Therapy program at The New School which offers a professional certificate in four areas of study: Art, Music, Drama, and Dance/Movement.
