Hi Cara, As I will not be at tomorrow's meeting, and have not heard back from you nor anyone at NYCCAT, I just want to make sure you got this note! Do let me know, and best of luck with this vital issue! (The suggestion it self, which may or may not be applicable to the facts, came from my husband who is a lawyer -- now retired.) Beate From: Beate Becker Sent: Thursday, March 08, 2012 10:34 PMTo: 'NYCCAT 'Cc: 'Cara Gallo'Subject: RE: NADT Tri-State Chapter Meeting, March 19 Hello, I would add a further thought to the opposition to the Permanent Exemption Law currently under consideration by the New York legislature. If the Commissioner of Mental Health is already permitting unlicensed practitioners, a court proceeding for an injunction compelling him to act properly would add to public opposition, especially if the injunction were granted. The proceeding might also make an impression on the state senators and assemblymen, irrespective of the outcome. There are doubtless able lawyers around who could help. With hope for success, Beate Becker, BC-DMT From: NYCCAT [mailto:NYCCAT ] On Behalf Of tristatechapterSent: Saturday, March 03, 2012 12:53 PMTo: NYCCAT Subject: NADT Tri-State Chapter Meeting, March 19 Hello Creative Arts Therapists! As creative arts therapists we have an urgent matter to turn our focus towards. The OMH (Office of Mental Health) is seeking to pass what is called the PERMANENT EXEMPTION law.If this law is passed it could possibly:· Allow bachelors level and unlicensed " clinicians " to work in hospitals in place of licensed and fairly compensated professionals· Decrease the jobs available to us as licensed professionals· Decrease our salaries dramaticallyTo combat this we need to come together as CATs and raise our voice! It is time to be more visible and have our profession get the respect it deserves! We need to move our license in the direction we want! Come join us at the next NADT Tri-State Chapter meeting to discuss this law and its possible effects and brainstorm how we can ADVOCATE for our community and profession.March 19, 2012, 7:00pm353 Studios @ 353 West 48th Street Between 8th and 9th AvenuesStudio B - BasementBuzz the second floorPlease RSVP at tristatechapter@...We hope to see you there!Sincerely, Geisert on behalf of the NADT Tri-State Chapter BoardCorresponding Secretary
