Guest guest
Ok, so I am guessing that your soon has special needs and that this bus is not for people with special needs?? Assuming that those two things are true, you could ask DART for information/paperwork to get your son signed up for the "handicapped" bussing and then schedule the busses to be door to door. I was able to do this for my husband when he was unable to drive due to his seizures, but they take people for many other reasons than just seizures and physical handicaps.... Just a thought, it wasn't hard to get my husband signed up, just a few signatures from his MD. Carolyn W. The bus will no longer stop at the campus causing those who use this means of transportation to walk 1/2 to 1 mile in the Texas heat (it is a102 today without the heat index) to attend their work/training. This causes a severe impact on these people as few can tolerate the heat/cold because of the disabilities they have and/or the medications they are on. Please call and respectfully inform DART that this is impacting not just the workers and students, but the families and communities of those with disabilities.Thank you for your time and reading of this email.Darla Coffey Golden's mom_*DART number, central time zone*_> **> Hours of Operation:> Monday through Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Guest guest
Will do. Can you tell us all more about the nonPariel Institute? I'm considering it for my 17 year old when he graduates. Guest guest
nonPariel Institute is a non-profit " business " that was started by a father of a son with autism. His idea is to teach adults on the spectrum how to program video games, apps, and do the graphics. With the products for sale, the goals are to eventually have an entire community where there will be dorms, apts. an environment conducive for autism to work, medical support and entertainment available. They have contacts and plans to have companies contract with nPI to run/test programs or games to find bugs or whatever before marketing them. The goals are ambitious but I believe that this is a much needed program for those that are not able to function in the neuro-typical world with the non-tolerance for differences in how they work. At this stage, the goal is still out there but the training is in practice and those who are involved with the teaching and movement forward are very well aware of how to work with Autism and it's whole spectrum of behaviors. IF you have access to an I-phone or Android, there is an app out for card tracking for those who play Magic the Gathering and Yugioh. Go to the I-tunes store, look for nPI and you can download it for $0.99. My son did the coding for the program, it was his idea and others worked on the graphics. It was an amazing experience for him AND he is still learning on how to be a project leader, work with a team, work on time line, communicate, act like a professional, etc. Hope this helps you. Check out the videos and other information on the website. www.npitx.org. Darla
Guest guest
I am kind of hoping this is the right place to post this question because I would really like some input on this - My 6 year old just came to me and showed me this little blood blister in his mouth, it looks like it is in the spot that would match what I see on the outside as him sucking or chewing on his lip. Anyone seen anything like this? It is not bothering his eating or drinking, I would like to do without the traumatizing doctor trip if I can. Guest guest
I was about to give her the same advice. DART offers this for the disabled as well as MITTS. But I think MITTS is more for Drs appointments. Of course you do have to have the paper work. And this is what Dart is going to tell anyone that calls. We do have a handicap program. I know I have seizures. Not poking fun just letting you know what is available to you and your family. --- Original Message --- Sent: July 20, 2012 11:14 AM To: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Subject: Re: Please, I need your help  Ok, so I am guessing that your soon has special needs and that this bus is not for people with special needs?? Assuming that those two things are true, you could ask DART for information/paperwork to get your son signed up for the " handicapped " bussing and then schedule the busses to be door to door. I was able to do this for my husband when he was unable to drive due to his seizures, but they take people for many other reasons than just seizures and physical handicaps.... Just a thought, it wasn't hard to get my husband signed up, just a few signatures from his MD.
