Guest guest
FYI From: Levy, Please pass this on to anyone you know who is a professional in, or preparing to enter, the field of rehabilitation and related disciplines. Also, the information below may be helpful to advisors in such groups as HASC, Camp Simcha, Kulanu, etc. The transition from a protective and sometimes isolated environment to greater participation in the community is enhanced by the ability to travel with some independence. Even people who may be considered “low functioning” should have the opportunity to enhance their travel skills. That’s why I’m notifying you about the Wednesday morning, November 30 travel training workshop (see attached form.) It is being conducted jointly by MTA New York City Transit and Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State (CPofNYS.) CPofNYS has contracted with Transit to provide travel training to up to 270 customers through February 2014. At the workshop, speakers, including travel training graduates, will demonstrate how individuals with a variety of disabilities can learn to travel more independently using NYC Transit buses and subways. Attendees will learn how to determine which individuals with disabilities may benefit from travel training and will be able to make referrals for training. Parents of potential travel training candidates in New York City would also benefit from the presentations of successful training graduates at the workshop. I am also attaching an intake form which can be used to refer travel training candidates to Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State. (Candidates must be at least 18 years old and must be registered as eligible with MTA New York City Transit’s Acces-A-Ride paratransit service.) Feel free to distribute this email to others who, like you, have worked in the “disability community.” Cordially, Levy Director, Travel Training Paratransit Division, Department of Buses, MTA New York City Transit () -- 2 of 2 File(s) initial travel training intake form fall 2011.doc workshop flyer Nov 2011.doc
