Guest guest
, Some other things that are pretty low in carbs are black olives, tofu, & Underwood Chicken Spread. It has only 4 carbs per can. It's in the little cans with the paper wrapping around them. I have it on Wasa Fiber Rye. That has 7 grams of CHO per piece. I have been scouring the databases on my health links and at least think I can keep my intake down to 80-100 grams of carb per day.
Guest guest
Good job, ! You might consider a bit more protein in the a.m. (egg) to keep you going. I think you'll notice a huge difference in a few days, not only in your bg's, but in how you feel. Write it all down, and test, test, test <grin> Barb -------- Rainbow Farm Unltd. I think eating a few days like that and you might really start feeling deprived...why are you having two slices of bread for breakfast? That's a lot of carbs. How 'bout eggs? they've gotten a lot of bad press but really, you can eat a few a week without clogging your arteries. Just plain lettuce can get pretty boring too, but there are lots of different kinds of lettuce which you can mix up to add variety -- in my area you can buy them packaged and prewashed. Also can add stuff to salad (but wqtch those carrots and tomatos!) And do be careful...some fruits are pretty high carb, strawberries have the lowest carbs. Did you check the USDA site? They've got counts for everything. I've posted the address previously but if you need it I'll repost. Vicki

Guest guest
Hi, In your last post, you wrote: > Some other things that are pretty low in carbs are black olives, tofu, & > Underwood Chicken Spread. I really don't go for olives, tofu leaves me cold, but I do know where the Underwood is. I like it and can have it with something low carb. 4 grams for the entire can? That seems okay. I never use an entire can when I make lunches. Thanks. Rich
Guest guest
>Last night, I began to feel light headed after two hours >or so following dinner. I tested and was 89. ****Rich, as your body readjusts from your high readings, you will feel hypoglycemic at higher numbers than most for awhile. In a few weeks, your hypos (if you have them) will be under 65 or less. Remember, the goal is 80-120 - 100 is best. Oh, and if you do go low, it's best to take a glucose tab, than to give in to the temptation to overeat on a low reading. It takes 20-30 mintues to recover from a hypo, and it's tempting to keep stuffing my face until I feel better - then I bounce way high again, and back to the vicious cycle. You're doing great, Rich! Guest guest
Barb, I see what you mean. Last night, I began to feel light headed after two hours or so following dinner. I tested and was 89. Because of what I had eaten the day before, my morning number was around 195, admittedly too high. Perhaps I ought to bring things down gradually rather than try and do things all at once. This way I might avoid problems. I can also do what you suggested so as to not feel so woozy in the evening. The low carb does work, but it is trying to readjust things that now has me concerned. Thanks. Rich Rainbow Farm wrote: > Good job, ! You might consider a bit more protein in the a.m. (egg) > to keep you going. But Rob and I actually like them, especially with something tangy like green chile dip used as a spread. >> Susie, have you actually checked your BG after eating them? I found they made me go high...LC-D list people told me that's because you cannot subtract the fiber because it's a European labeling system and they already subtract the fiber. I like 'em too but I have to Be Careful! Vicki PS: I like mine with a layer of cream cheese (trying to gain weight), some Equal sprinkled on that and on top of that, thinly sliced fruit like kiwi. Or without the fruit.
Guest guest
<< Breakfast: 2 slices whole wheat toast, light on the Shedd Spread Coffee, only a little milk, Equal Lunch: 3 oz. Chunk Light Tuna, 1/2 teaspoon Miracle Whip 1 glass Crystal Light Peach Tea Mid afternoon snack: 1 sugar free popsicle Dinner: 4 oz. grilled chicken, no skin 1 cup brocoli-carrot combo 1 glass Peach Tea >> I hope that will be enough food for you, Rich. If you need more calories, we all have some ideas, e.g., raw veggies dipped in tangy guacamole dip, olives, and everything-in-'em salads. It takes awhile for your body to adjust to the lower, healthier numbers. But don't delay pulling your numbers down into normal range, Rich. It can take an entire year of normal readings to undo the damage caused by just one month of elevated glucose readings, according to Ron Sebol and others at LC-DIABETES.
