Advice Re: Buying a New Computer

So, I believe my laptop finally crashed for good as it will simply not

turn on. (I don't believe its the battery as I plugged this in

directly to the wall without the battery.)

Does anyone have advice regarding brands, mac vs. pc, memory,

durability/lifespan, etc??? I am in need of something that will really

be versatile to meet all my professional and personal needs, be not

too outrageously priced and last as long as possible considering these

days. Any thoughts/ideas are welcome!
