Guest guest
I keep forgetting to ask this question. A list suggesting things to do when you find out your a diabetic stated, " Start taking 1 aspirin a day. " My DR said good idea. Does anyone else do this? I know clotting problems and ulcers would contra indicate this. Donna PS did I ever mention I am an RN---retired to raise my children and farm in 1977---so I am a quite outdated, but still have a little more knowledge than the average. Which CAN be a scary thing! Guest guest
Never heard of it with relation to diabetes but it is indicated for heart. I was taking a baby aspirin each day to facilitate blood flow. But, since my cancer surgery, I am told not to. You have to look at all the angles. What's good for one is not always good for the other.
Guest guest
Yes Donna I've taken 325 mgs of ASA(coated) per day for the last 14 years because of artery problems with no side effects. fp Re: Re: aspirin >From: Nonnalyn@... > >I keep forgetting to ask this question. Guest guest
Donna - This is suggested because of the prevalence of heart disease in diabetics. I do not currently do this, but my parents do. My mother is a type II diabetic, my father is not. in Cincinnati << I keep forgetting to ask this question. Guest guest
Donna: My doctor has me taking one aspirin every other day. There are small dose aspirins available if you would prefer taking them every day, and they are coated to prevent stomach trouble. Trouble is, they are very expensive compared to the generic aspirins I buy at the 99 cents store. (250 tabs for 99 cents.) Have a wonderful week everybody, and thanks for all of the useful information. Erwin
Guest guest
I know the top endo at our hospital tells everyone to take a baby aspirin and 4 tums every day. The asa is for anticoagulation and the tums are for calcium. Meenie >From: Nonnalyn@... > >I keep forgetting to ask this question. Guest guest
I thought another reason might be to improve circulation to the extremities by keeping the blood thinner. Donna
Guest guest
Meenie, My wife is on 7.5 mg. warfarin daily and is told to take a baby aspirin as well. Something to do with a difference in action of the two. She has had several thromboembolic events and recently underwent a pulmonary thromboendarterectomy at the University of Calif. San Diego. Guest guest
Hi Bob, You might be interested to know that warfarin (coumadin) is the main ingredient in rat poison! LOL... it isn't because it is poisonous... but because at the high dose the rat eats it will cause his blood to thin too much and the critter bleeds out! Its always a little amusing to see we are giving our patients rat poison. (Don't tell your wife if she is squeamish - hehe) I hope she is doing well after her endarterectomy. Guest guest
I thought of that, too, but I didn't have any backup to substantiate it. in Cincinnati << I thought another reason might be to improve circulation to the extremities by keeping the blood thinner.
