I will be sharing and venting some with you guys in the very near future,

but right now everyone is still in a state of shock. I was working when

this happened, on the radio but not on the channel where it occurred.

Briefly, because that's all I can manage, Officer , a CPD

officer since 1977, was killed this morning in a head-on collision just

blocks from the Police Service Center. He was on duty, but not on a call.

It happened during shift change. Two people from the other car were also

killed. Officer was planning to retire in two months.

Chattanooga's last sworn officer killed was in 1978, a loss of two officers.

We have since had a park officer and a school patrol officer killed in the

line of duty.

Your thoughts, prayers, and sympathies are appreciated, more than you know.

I will be printing them and sharing them with others at the department, so

anyone who wishes the message not to be shared, let me know and I will

respect that.

My heart is weeping with you, the department and the family. Such tragedy never

grows accustomed. Pass my sympathies and that of my department along to everyone

there. I have shared your information with some of my officers, who have friends

and family in the area. Needless to say, we are all stunned and grieve with you.

Not only is Chattanooga Police Chief Jimmie L. Dotson suffering the loss

of Veteran Officer - But Chief Dotson also is suffering

the loss of his father, who passed away last night. His father's health had

been rapidly declining now for some time. His father lived in Arkansas.

As Kim has already said " Your thoughts, prayers, and sympathies are

appreciated, more than you know " .

My sympathies to Chief Dotson ... what a nice, upstanding man he seems to be.

Our prayers are with him - and all of you - here in Florida.

Sad, that a local newspaper columnist was recently so outraged about traffic

enforcement, accusing the CPD of writing tickets for the money ... then

something like this happened ... which only reinforces the need for traffic

enforcement. (When I was there talking to officers, I saw more written warnings

than tickets.) Then there were motorists going around the roadblocks after

Officer 's accident, which were put there for a good reason ... but it

was rush hour, and God forbid their lives should be disrupted for any reason ...

where are people's minds when they do stuff like that??? <shaking head sadly>
