Hey all:

When I purchased my tickets today, I spoke with Andranise and she said the

tickets weren't selling real well. The first hour or so yesterday they did, but

now it is trickling in. It is really a great opportunity and no one is going to

care if your child has meltdowns because all our kids do too. Social Skills in

Motion (I think I have the name right) mentioned to me at the dance they hosted

at United Methodist Church in The Woodlands that they were going to have sensory

friendly rooms to go to if you needed to exit the the theater for a little

while. I mentioned that if they would maybe contact TV or print media, they

might get better sales, but they didn't want to do this because they are afraid

the public will see the greatly reduced prices and buy up the tickets.

I imagine if this is not successful for them, they may not try again.

Tickets are: Orchestra/Front Mezzanine (A-G) and Boxes: $59.50

Rear Mezzanine (H-L), Front Gallery (A-E): $45.50

Rear Gallery (F-O): $24.50

It is going to be amazing. See a note below. They are certainly working hard to make it successful.

On April, I traveled to New York City with leadership from the Hobby Center Lion King Autism Theatre Initiative to attend and learn from an autism-friendly performance of Poppins. What a great opportunity this trip was to help us prepare

for Houston’s own autism-friendly performance of The Lion King at the Hobby Center on July 28th! The supporters of the Poppins performance worked with us all day on Sunday to share information about how to make our own show as successful as

theirs. During the show, we shadowed their support volunteers and roamed the theatre observing the sensory and quiet break areas. At several points, I was overwhelmed by the joy I saw on the faces of the children and families, many of whom were overheard saying

that they were enjoying their first outing to a theatre together. What a great experience!

To read more about this special performance of Poppins and learn about parent reactions, click on this link to the front page of the Arts section of Monday’s New York Times.
