Guest guest
Hi, Peggy: Yes, I do feel as if the oxygen is being cut off at times when I lie down. I then prop myself up real good with five pillows and usually have a good nights sleep. The fact that I am taping the canula to my face at night has helped me keep it on. I wish the Dr. had thought of it sooner. Since I have been keeping it on through the night my oxy numbers are getting higher during the day. Can you believe this, my numbers have been between 93-95 all day long. When diagnosed I was 81, I believe God is working a miracle with me. Keep praying for me everyone as I am praying for all of you.,... Barb from KYPeggy wrote: Hi Group, Question.... AGAIN... Guest guest
Hey, Peggy: No, I am not walking yet. I know I need to, but most of the time it just seems like too much trouble to clean up and get dressed and go for a walk. After I take a shower I am worn out. Then there is the getting dressed part. I love my night gowns and pajama's. But I know if I am going to get this weight off I am going to have to do something or there won't be no lung for me. As for God's beauty, I know what you mean. When I sit outside on the deck, I can see mountains covered in trees for miles. It is beautiful and so relaxing. Peggy, how old did you say you were? Have you gotten assertive with you pulmonary Dr. yet? I will keep you in my prayers. Barb in KY Peggy wrote: Barb, Those numbers are great. I know you must feel better. Guest guest
Bagbara and Peggy. I saw a special oxygen nose piece that was advertised on one of the web sites. The Dr. that ran the web sight was a pilot and the nose piece was for pilots. I was on cpap for a while. Then went on ox attached to cpap. Then took the ox off the cpap and used it under the cpap mask. Now I use the ox by itself. All this in 6 mo time. I had been needing ox for a long time. I have tried to go back to the web site but it messes up my cp. I had been sleeping or not sleeping for a good long while. Sit up in a lounge chair all night. Dr. said I had sleep apmea. My spellings not right but you know what I mean. In sleep apmea your air is cut off by something in your throat and you stop breathing and wake up. I run my mouth too much. Guest guest
no, Grey, you don't run your mouth too much. I do have sleep apnea, but cannot stand the thoughts of that cpap thing. I am hoping it won't hurt me if I don't use one. Barb in KYjose singletary wrote: Bagbara and Peggy. I saw a special oxygen nose piece that was advertised on one of the web sites. Guest guest
Peggy, My wedge is as wide across as a hospital bed and come down about 1/2 way the length of the bed. I put a pillow on that. Sometimes I just use pillows piled up. I slide down in the night and that is when I get into trouble. My sleep panic is because I get into a position where I am too flat and can not breathe. I thought of velcro jammies..ha! I am worried about your neck discomfort. Did you ask the doc? Love, Joyce >> Hi Group, Question.... AGAIN... Guest guest
I'm 63, going on 32 and OH YEA, I've had more tests than I can remember this past two years. As soon as I loose about 50 more lbs. I will go into the Hosp. for three days for tests to see if I qualify for transplant. You have to be pretty healthy other than the IPF. My trans. Dr. says the main thing is walking because you have to get up right after surgery to exercise your new lung.. So that gives a little motivation to walk. We live in the Forest so I walk in my PJ's on my porch. I can't hardly relate to city living after two years here. So I don't have to tire out before I walk. Keep tryin' I'll keep prayin. Guest guest
Gray, You could never run your mouth to much. That's why were here. My husband has used a c-pap for 20 years. He has obstructive apnea. The mussels in his throat (double chin ) relax and cut off the air. The C-pap forces the air into him. Once he got used to it he is getting enough oxygen at night and therefor feels better during the day. It is VERY important to use your c-pap. Guest guest
no, Grey, you don't run your mouth too much. I do have sleep apnea, but cannot stand the thoughts of that cpap thing. I am hoping it won't hurt me if I don't use one. Barb in KY I have a new cpap, and have never used it....I am sooo very claustrophobic, and just the thought of it scares me senseless. But Dr. says altho I do not have sleep apnea, he says I need it to expell damaging CO2. And that I can sit in my recliner a few hours a day and use it. He says the whole purpose of the cpap for me is the expulsion of CO2. That I don't get rid of it adequately. It is my understanding is that's pretty normal for all IPF/IP folks on O2. Not real sure what the results are if you never use the cpap. Guess I may find out, unless I can bring myself to try to use it. kiss kiss, ~Ginger~
Guest guest
Peggy: How are you losing weight? Starving yourself to death or what? What do you have to weigh to qualify for a lung transplant. I am 5' 7" and weigh 295. Barb When I went to Dallas last November for my evaluation, the Lung Dr. there said I needed to loose 60 more lbs. to qualify for the transplant. And I weighed 223 lbs then. Pretty dificult to loose much weight while on prednisone. Like Peggy, I love cake! kiss kiss, Ginger~
Guest guest
Peggy, It is so interesting that you have Graves Disease. Did the docs consider this when making your diagnosis. Read the following: Graves' disease can have an effect on many parts of the body such as the nervous system, eyes, skin, hair/nails, lungs, digestive system, muscles/bones and reproductive system. Graves disease is an autoimmune disease which is not curable, but treatable. If you had it, you have it. Like Lupus, sometimes it works silently. When I thought I was in remission and feeling better it was attacking my lungs. I think Ginny has had much the same experience. By the time lung disease presents itself, damage is done. If they can treat your autoimmune disease (such as they began concentrating on Lupus and it's treatment when I had biopsy) it buys time. You can not undo fibrosis, but slow its progression by halting the autoimmune disease. Ask your doc. There are many sites that relate lung disease to Graves. Let me know. God will help you in your search for answers. I am praying for you. Joyce > >> > Hi Group, Question.... AGAIN... Guest guest
Hey Barb, My wife tells me that it is the inability to get rid of co2 that poisons our bodies. I think I would take your doctors advice and use the cpap in the lounge chair to see if it might make you feel better. It is my understanding that expelling the co2 is a big problem as our lungs get weaker. Hope you get to feeling better. Grey Re: wedge no, Grey, you don't run your mouth too much.
