Oh Vicky, That is terrible. The depression is totally normal, please call your Dr and ask to be put on wellbutron it will help you cope. YOU NEED IT. I think we are all on an anti-depressant. Coming off the prednisone will make you have all kinds of side effects. It's like coming off a heavy duty drug. It seems like you have decreased your dosage pretty quickly, that could be one reason for your depression. It took me almost a year to come off 60 mg. My body hurt in places I didn't know I had. My hubby read this post and said that it really bad to have a sugar count that high. you have to talk to your Dr and get something for that. The thing does is walk when his sugar gets high. Honey, Keep us posted, I'll be praying for you.Did you get a hold of your O2 Co. ? That is very important. You could get an infection by not changing your tubing and cannullas. God Bless.. love and prayers...Peggy 09/04 ipf

Hi all,Just me, needing to vent a little. Is it normal to get depressed when comming down off steroids? I went from 40 to 30 and am now at 20. I'm so tired od drs, hospitals, needles, tests , apts. Last night my sugar was over 500, so my drs office said go to ER. I went and the nurse told me, " Your dr should of told you to do somethingcause your gonna have a long wait, we're busy". I said even with my sugar this high? She said yep, so I just left. I miss my normal life, every morning I wake up there is that monster, staring me in the face, laughing at me, reminding me how hes in my body and hes gonna get me in the ned. I tell him you wont get my soul but still, I know my family has to be tired of me,and my sickness. Please forgive me for dumping , but I dont have anyone else to talk to about this. Vicky, Sorry you are going through a rough time. Unfortunately, weaning off prednisone is really rough. Peggy's right - a lot of us are on antidepressants - I'm on zoloft and I can't go off as I get surly. I hate being dependent on antidepessents but I don't like being surly or off kilter either! I don't know much about blood sugar unfortunately, but perhaps you will get some good advice from the board. Were you able to get ahold of the doctor today? Please keep us posted. You and your family are in my prayers. Leanne ipf 1/03 PS. You can vent ANY TIME.vicky81856 wrote: Hi all,Just me, needing to vent a little. Vicky,

You dump all you want on me! I get it!!!! This is why we are here! I for one need to know that another person understands my fright and my pain. I, too, seem to have one more sickness, then one more, then one more. I get tired of the smell of medical places! By sharing your frustrations and depressions, it is helping the rest of know that we are only human. Get mad, get sad, cry ......... just don't give up!

We love you Vicky!

Hey, Vicky: My dr never helped me with my diabetes. So when it gets high, I just take me 20 more units and see what happens. I have not had to be weaned off of prednisone yet, so I really do not know how you feel, but I understand it is pretty rough. You hang in there. Dear Vicky,

I have felt the same way--yes, I've gotten depressed coming down off

prednisone. I'm sorry you are feeling so anxious and frightened and

depressed. If you were just diagnosed a couple months ago (I'm new and

assume the dates everyone is using refer to the date of diagnosis), your

life has just changed dramatically, and you have a lot to deal with.

But you've got to watch out for the depression, it's kind of like an

emotional hallucination. You know you're depressed when it's not just a

few things getting you down, but the whole world seems terrible, and you

think you are totally worthless. That's when you have to do a reality

check and remember the world is still pretty much the same cool place it

was, and you're still worth just as much as you were before the diagnosis.

The last time I got really depressed when I had just gone on oxygen, I

recall saying to myself-- " of what use is my life. I can't even do

anything, I haven't enough energy to hardly tie my shoes. I'm too

depressed to be cheerful or even say much to my wife or visit other

folks--if I can't do anything, then what am I, a potted plant? " So that

day I concluded that even though I couldn't _do_ anything, at least I

could be a _decoration_ that my family appreciated seeing around the

house. Not much to hang on to, but it got me through.

Keep on truckin', NSIP 3/03

Hi Vicky, you are definately not alone. Last month I stent two

weeks of steroids at 60 mg a day. The detox off them have had me

weeping, paranoid and (oddly enough) not wanting to be touched. It

seems like it hurt just to be touched? Anyone else have that? I

also am on celexa, an anti-anxiaty drug. Unless it envolves

blood, I am never going to listen to a phone health advices prodding

to go to the ER. At least you had the sence to take off. Take care

and keep those md's on task.

Most of us have so much to cope with.

I suffered from severe panic attacks about suffering and death so badly that my Dr. put me on Atarax and Ativan. It has made a big difference.

It is so good when we hear from the men in our group....especially when they are 'real' about thier feelings and fears. I believe that it is tougher for men because they are used to being the 'strong' Dad and Husband. Thanks for sharing your real self with us.
