Guest guest
Hello,I have a question that a colleague asked me about. She works with a young man in college who has a diagnosis of bi-polar and is on medication. Would it hurt/help him to register with the office of disability at his school for assistance? I don't work with him but he has people who are advising him in regards to school. He seems to be thinking of dropping out of school and may be experiencing a manic episode. It also sounds like he is under the care of a psychiatrist already. Is anyone familiar with what a college's office of disability might provide? Guest guest
: I work at a college counseling center and being hooked up with the office of students with disabilities can often open doors in terms of getting extra time, resources, etc., even finding official ways to take necessary leave without jeporadizing an academic record. The school legally has to make any accomodations necessary for its students with disabilities to have equal access to educaiton, so it could make him feel empowered and more in control of his education.
