Guest guest
The majority (if not all) of the docs that competently treat thyroid patients do not take insurance in any form. I have still found that it's well worth it to pay out of pocket - in the long run you will save alot of time, suffering and money. The per hour rate you pay for the good doctors is often *much* less than you pay for the docs that take your insurance/co-pay. My PCP charges me the same for a 15 min appt that Dr. Spurlock charges for a 1+ hour follow-up (i.e., he's about 1/4 the cost as my PCP). Personally I'll pay whatever I have to in order to maintain optimal health. It's very much a pay now or pay later situation. The advantage of the pay now is that you suffer a whole lot less. I spent the *most* miserable year of my life with a doctor that seemed quite good that was on my insurance. I was a compliant patient and suffered tremendously. Honestly, if I didn't have kids, I likely would not be here now - I was that miserable - I had no quality of life. I literally crawled out of bed everyday to care for my kids and only by the grace of God was I able to work since I had a job where I could work from home. In hindsight, I have no idea how I did it. I will *never* do that again. Borrowing from Scarlett, " As God as my witness, I will never suffer like that again " . B. Just beware that Medicare never pays for reverse T3. I do not know of any really good thyroid docs who take Medicare. Alan Berg (who does take Medicare and Medicaid) will write for Armour or any other dessicated thyroid if you are already on it. But he will not write for any synthetic T3 or any hormones or HC. > >> > Do we know of docs in the DFW area who do a good job on adrenals, in> > addition to thyroid?> > > > > > How much is a regular pt visit for spurlock? I have paid as little as $82. and as much as $165. I think the highest amount I heard of anyone paying was $365. Since he does not take insurance, you may be able to negotiate a discount for cash up front. The insurance companies can dictate what an in-network doc can charge all of his patients. Spurlock is free of that kind of restriction. I think Dr. Rea in the same office does take Medicare. I do not know if he takes thyroid and hormone patients who are not environmental patients. You might call and ask. If the answer is affirmative, please let me know, so I can put him on our list. I have been told that Dr. Rea is a wonderful doctor by someone who knows their doctors. How much is a regular pt visit for spurlock? I was told 800 bucks??? i will find out
