Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the information on your driving experiences. Jenn, thanks for the info on the hand controls. I did some research after I read your post and was really surprised at how they can be installed in almost any type of vehicle. I'm not sure if this is the route we need to go right now, until we know how much strength he will regain. He has good strength in his legs now, but since he has been non-weightbearing for about a year and a half due to the pressure sores he dealt with before his foot surgery in March, he's trying to build up his quads and hips so that he can support himself without having to use a walker. We took him out this afternoon to a wide open paved lot and he did a really good job with the basics without wearing his AFOs. He has had foot reconstruction surgery on both feet so with that and the back surgeries, it really concerns me with what he really feels when he moves from the brake to the gas, but today, when he was driving around, he did a really good job. I know I stress him out with me being really paranoid about everything (and sometimes I even drive myself crazy with all the what if's), but I'm trying to make him see the importance of being honest about what he can feel and what he can't. My husband said he drove like any other 16 year old being behind the wheel for the first time, but I can't get it out of my head the what if's..... Kasha Driving with decreased sensation in feet.... Hi All Can anyone give me their experience with driving and having decreased sensation in the lower limbs? If you wear AFO's, do you drive with AFOs or do you find that its better to drive without them. My son has tsc and has had some issues since his last back surgery. He is getting his leg strength back and can feel the pressure on the pedels, but sometimes has trouble with moving from the gas to the brake and vice versa without his AFOs. Just curious to how others handle driving. Thanks for any info. Kasha
