Guest guest
Dear Parents, I do hope I have not sent this out before. I have done this on so many lists I have forgotten who has received this request and who hasn't. I am a mother of a son with Asperger's Syndrome and a Pediatric Nurse. My hospital (employer) has a committee that is trying to make the hospital autism friendly. To that goal, we are educating all staff about autism, sensory integration and communication. Do you know of a facility that has this in place already and could assist us with the set up of our program, or do you have ideas that could help us? We are doing the following: 1. Attending department meetings to do education 2. Posted information boards around the hospital and in the inpatient units 3. Provided a class on the computer for employees to do on-line 4. Given contact for Child Life Specialists to assist in developing schedules for the individual to have posted in the patient's room 5. Asked for ideas from parents with special needs children, specifically autism 6. Posted on professional lists for nurses, child life, and autism professionals for information 7. Reached out to networks Thank you for your help, and I apologize if this is a repeated request. Darla Golden, RN, BSN Mom
