Guest guest
In stopping thought and then moving in a positive direction I suspect you come out in a place similar to where the Work brings you. I am curious as to what has been your experience with the Work. Have you ever seen do The Work with a group? Have you filled out worksheets or read any of her books? You've probably answered these questions earlier but I just came to this website recently. Vivian Holes and thoughts. My manager said: Moment you find yourself in a hole; first thing to do is to stop digging! Once you stop digging, look outside, look up, look in the direction of light* and see what is there and see where you want to go. Once you do that finding your way out will become easy! If we use same analogy to " thought " it becomes like: Moment you realize, you are stuck in painful thought; first thing to do is Stop Thinking! Now, look in the light of your own Presence, Awareness, Consciousness... look where you want to go, what you want to feel, what you want to think... Once you do both of these, you might find that the hole [of stressful thoughts] has disappeared! That has been kind of my experience.... Have you ever tried it? What is your experience? ---- *If you don't have *light* ask for help and ask for light!
Guest guest
In the early days of the Work there was a no. 8 on the worksheet that I don't think exists any longer. It was along the lines of " I am willing to............. " . So you would say, I am willing to keep on smoking. The idea is since I smoke right now I am willing to do it until I stop. There is no point in fighting reality and if you smoke today that is reality and you might as well accept it until there is a different reality. vivian Re: Holes and thoughts. > > honey i don't sense you like that. Guest guest
>>Dear AC, Dear Steve: Thanks a lot for your lovely letter. >>My experience is that it is impossible to use one's will to stop thoughts or as you say " Stop Thinking! " . You boil water by heating it up. You stop thinking by... meditation. and, I think many, many people around the globe do it. Many of them have been measured by scientific instruments that measure brain waves. I am not saying that to make it sound like some big deal but to point to that it is quite simple and common indeed. When someone asks me to 'not think' of 'monkey'... I don't try to 'not think' of 'monkey' I focus on thinking of something else... like roses, lakes, rivers, oceans or I just concentrate on thinking of one thing... Empty Sky... When my thoughts go somewhere else, I bring it back again... and, as I do it becomes easier and easier... Similarily, 'not thinking' I find quite simple and once I have done it I have 'learnt' it. Now, I can simply 'remember' how it feels... and, there it is... I feel it right now! Same way, when I know how 'love' feels... I know how to feel it pretty much anytime! When I know how 'happiness' feels, I can pretty much feel it anytime I remember it. I am sure, you know it too! Any 'feeling' that we have had and expereinced, we are able to recreate. Remeber, how we were/are able to create 'lust', 'anger', 'rage', 'hate', 'sadness' simply by trying to 'remember' it... or, simply by trying to 'create' them! Remember, how we were/are able to *act* them in dramas. Well emotions like LOve, Happiness, Paece are not that different. One way I get into 'no thought' is simply by remebering how PEACE feels like. By remembering how Meditation feels like! And, to me, Mediation = Peace = No thought I also use many other techniques that you might already be well aware of and I am very sure that I am not the only one who does it. Love, ac. PS ----- I was told that our mind doesn't undersatnd 'negative' .... it only understand 'positive'! Ask it to 'lose weight' and it will gets stuck with 'weight'. But, ask it find a way to fit into size 8 jeans... and, to run 10 mile marathon... it might find a Way! Ask it to 'not think'... and, it will get stuck with 'think' but, ask it how exactly 'peace' feels and it might show you the way... I have found it true in my own experience. Regards, ac. >>It is like I have heard say, " People told me to " Let go and let God. " Well, I would if I could. What I found is that you can inquire and understand your thoughts and then they will let go of you. Yes, I have read katie's book, I have watched her video, have heard her audio and have also attended one of her seminar. I have not filled too many worksheets in any formal way though. I have filled some mental worksheets for sure. There has been times, where I have been very stressed - and, frankly in those times no amount of *work* has really worked! As I said earlier, all that has worked in those situations is to find a way to get into 'no thought' zone [there are numerous very effective techniques available] and once I have reached there... problems [stress] has dissapeared and everything has worked! Guest guest
Dear AC: You said: " After, some time 'mind' wants same 'drama' [thinking] because body wants same 'drug' [harmone]! " My experience is quite the opposite. For me, body only follows the mind's directions. My body does not want or need nicotene but my mind sometimes attaches to the belief that some nicotene would be nice. I can not blame any of my cravings on my poor innocent body because it appears to not have a mind of it's own. It simply follows my thinking. When you feel a craving for a hormone, try to remember what you were thinking just prior to that. Also, I would suggest that you may wnat to have someone experienced at facilitating, facilitate you in doing The Work. I find that that can often be much more helpful that self- facilitation. Guest guest
Dear AC: Yes, I have meditated daily for 33 years and I know what you mean but what about afterward? After meditation, do you ever experience the thought returning? I enjoy my meditation very much and find it a very enjoyable activity. I am so happy that you have this capability. It must come in very handy when you are in an argument with your wife or some similar stressful situation. For me, truly understanding the thought (by doing The Work and realizing no harm has been done, or truly forgiving the situation) is the only way I have ever had a thought stop returning to me. Guest guest
I just saw I didn't send this one. Well, essentially Steve said it all. Maybe someone finds something usefule in it, anyway: Dear AC, Meditating is an instant pain killer. What I noticed is, that when I do " the work " on a thought, and I come to see that it's not true, I loose my attachement to it. Only then can I invite it to come again, without shifting awareness. > It is a long-standing habit that > I have still not completely broken and > I have been doing from as long as I can > remember. I don't know about you. I stopped trying to " break " habits. Can I love them? If not, it's time to inquire. What is a habit? I find it's the story that I have been doing something and that I will do it again, without " choosing " to do it. So, how can a habit exist without time? And I don't believe in time. But it seems to be a useful concept for you. Guest guest
Dear : Thanks a lot for your lovely letter. >>I just saw I didn't send this one. >>Well, essentially Steve said it all. Maybe someone finds something usefule in it, anyway: Yes, I do find it useful. It tells me that you have similar experience as mine. >>Dear AC, >>Meditating is an instant pain killer. Yes, I too have found that meditation* is an instant 'pain' [and stress, suffering, worry, fear] killer. [i also know that meditation may not be that easy for everyone. For some time, it was not easy for me and, then it became very simple. In fact, to really learn what real meditation is about it took me a such a severe disparassion where I was ready to choose death over kind of thoughts I was frequently having! Interestingly, even that time too my *frustration* was about not bing able to plan and not being able to stick to the plan ] I have also found that I can pretty much be in meditation all day and night - just alternating between 'no thought' [meditation] and thoughts [mostly 'focussed' thought] every few second. I know it sounds like lot of work; but, in reality it is not. All I need to do start it early in the morning and then keep doing it. As the day progresses it starts becoming more and more *natural* and *effortless*. And, all the work in the office or at home gets performed equally well or better. I have done this one many days, some times for more than 2-3 weeks. I would like to write more later... [NNB] What I noticed is, that when I do " the work " on a thought, and I come to see that it's not true, I loose my attachement to it. Love,
