Guest guest
Good luck with your recovery..what is a chaotic lipoma..great description but I am sure it isn't a lipoma turnign round and round and screaming as I am picturing!! LOL ... you have several months of healing so that calf muscle may just get in gear as well...too soon to tell. Randee In a message dated 1/1/2010 11:10:49 P.M. I think I have more sensation in my foot than I used to, although the calf muscle still doesn't work any different--not that we expected it to. Just thought I'd let you know. Thanks for all the support over the last several months while I was waiting for a surgery date and was stressing out.
Guest guest
As I understand it, it means that the nerves are all tangled up in it. If the lipoma was just wrapped around the cord, or lay alongside it, they would have fully removed the lipoma. As it was, there was no way to untangle it without causing more damage. My surgeon is extremely experienced in this specific disease (about 30 years doing this procedure) so if he says it's better off left this way, I trust him. He's done studies about different techniques vs outcomes, and stuff like that. For those curious about him, here's his homepage: http://www.permanente.net/homepage/kaiser/doctor/dachlingpang/ I can't tell you a whole lot about him, except that he and his partner were the two most knowledgeable people I met on this subject and came highly recommended by other neurosurgeons. They were very direct and clear about the procedure and what it would entail specifically. The only complaint I could have had was that the waiting list was long--there were about 60 people in line ahead of me, and I had to wait about 14 months to get a surgery date. The scheduler was excellent however, and kept me well informed about what was going on whenever I called to check in, and was patient with me when I was freaky. Which, you know, happened from time to time. > > Good luck with your recovery..what is a chaotic lipoma..great description > but I am sure it isn't a lipoma turnign round and round and screaming as I > am picturing!! Guest guest
So glad everything went well for you! It will be many many months before all the nerves settle down and you can honestly see what all changed for you. In the meantime, Happy Healing! Subject: had my surgery at last To: tetheredspinalcord Date: Friday, January 1, 2010, 11:10 PM  I finally had my surgery done. Guest guest
I have the same problem as you. My lipoma is wrapping around nerves. I went to a neurosurgeon at one hospital and he thinks thats the root of my problems not the tethered cord. I really think its the tethered cord like another suregeon told me who didnt want to operate on the lipoma. They told me that the lipoma has probally been their forever so if I only became symtomatic about a year ago it leads me to believe that the tethered cord is the cause. Thanks for sharing your story It helps me decide who to go to for my surgery. I dont want them to take out the lipoma if it can stay. Well anyway I hope you feel beter and keep us updated.
