The Mercury moms are supposed to meet in DC in October. Anyway, this is weird

how

they are trying to take some of the emotion caused by the Katrina disaster and

put it back

into their rally....

" Bring some fire coal? "

-----------------------------

Dear Friends,

At no other time in history has parent advocacy for autism gained such attention

and

advancement than now. And who are these parents making it happen? They are you!

The most recent profound achievement has been our success at getting

anti-thimerosal

legislation passed in New York against formidable opponents with formidable

resources.

Six other states already have such legislation in place and fourteen more are in

the works.

With almost no money, but plenty of moxie, parents are accomplishing big scores

for

our kids.

All of these political achievements are designed to build upon one another to

raise public

awareness and political support for the needed relevant research and public

health

reforms. Let there be no mistaking it, if we don't push for these things to

happen, they will

NOT happen.

While we are all heartsick watching the images left by Katrina, they present an

opportunity

for those who would sacrifice our children in order to protect the

pharmaceutical industry.

Don't be surprised if big pharma takes advantage of the situation and uses it to

pull

another Homeland Security trick. As a good friend just reminded me, 'the worse

the

catastrophe,

the bigger the opportunity' to sneak some vaccine liability protection language

into a piece

of legislation. And just like the Homeland Security Act, senators will have

difficulty

voting against legislation that has good overall intent but unrelated provisions

tacked on

that will hurt our kids.

Since the House passed HR 5 right before congress went into recess, we have

(take out

2nd " have " ) been advised that the senate will try and get liability protection

legislation for

vaccine manufacturers that would undermine our children's claims. We need to be

prepared and make sure that this does not happen. We must unite again to keep

up the

momentum our community

has worked so hard to build.

Many of the victims of Katrina are experiencing a similar abandonment those of

the

'Thimerosal Generation' know only too well. We need to stand up to those in a

position to

help but

instead do nothing. If you haven't signed up to participate in the Power of

Parents Rally on

October 7 & 8 please take a moment to review this information and sign up today.

The

vaccine

manufacturers are only 60 votes away from having a liability bill that will be

very

detrimental to our children's due process rights. Only 60 votes!

The rally will give us the opportunity to address from the streets, not only

Congress, but

also the American Academy of

Pediatrics Convention. Pediatricians can be powerful allies, rather then

opponents, if we

make the effort to reach them. If we can convince hardened politicians to come

over to our

side

with such success, we can do the same with much softer baby doctors.

We need to get organized and unite! Our children need as many of us as possible

to make

it to The Power of Parents Rally--the future of our kids depends upon our

commitment to

standing

up for their rights. No one else is going to do it.

October is approaching quickly so we need to act now. Please find a way to

attend this

very important event and if possible bring a friend, bring two. Our children's

future may

depend on

our commitment to protect their rights.
