Guest guest
And I thought we were medical professionals! Boy, am I naive. No wonder nobody views us as being any better than plumbers and 1/10th as well paid. Do any of you happen to teach Behavioral Emergencies? Maybe some here need a review of the subject matter. Addiction is a DISEASE, friends. Having been a part of the law enforcement system for 15 years, I can guarantee you that punishment doesn't work for chemical dependency unless we're willing to lock everybody up for the rest of their lives. We already have more people in prison in Texas than they do in England, France, Germany, Italy, the Scandinavian countries and Japan combined. At a cost of around $50,000 per year each. Gee, I get OFF on paying my taxes every year! We do little or nothing to offer help to people who need it. It's almost impossible to get anybody into a treatment program unless they're rich. The public programs are so sparse that it's a disgrace. And we pay a much higher price in the long run than we would if we had good treatment programs. But we're a vengeance-oriented society. And we pay the price for it. I for one don't like it.
