Daily activities will include arts and crafts, games, music, journaling, and team-building. The program includes activities from Sibshops, music by the Be An Artist program, and other published curricula for this special group of kids. Friendship Camp Age Group: 1st- 3rd Grade Session: July 30th- Aug 3rd, 9am-12pm Friendship Camp at The Center is a week-long camp designed to teach elementary school children how to form "quality friendships". Using the research-based Children's Friendship Training protocol, the camp consists of Friendship Coaches teaching lessons to the group, followed by an activity where the kids practice skills from the lesson with their peers. Kids are also given homework that involves additional practice of the skills learned in the daily lessons. This extra practice helps the kids become more confident using the newly learned friendship skills in new settings. During Friendship Camp your child will learn: - Conversational skills - Ways to find common interests with peers - Joining peers in play activities - Ways to make a good first impression - Ways to handle teasing, bullying and rejection - How to be a good sport - Ways to show respect to adults and teachers Led by Sally Borella, BCBA at The Center. Enroll your campers now. Call or email for more information. * Scholarships available for qualifying families Will your child be a Super Hero to a child with autism this summer? Summer is a great time for your child to participate in one of our research studies. We are currently enrolling boys and girls, ages 18 months to 8 years of age, to participate in a study to identify a blood biomarker for autism. Controls, or children who do not have autism, are very important for this study. The study requires only one office visit and all participants receive a 'Super Hero' T-shirt. Compensation is also provided. We are currently scheduling morning appointments throughout the summer. Also, if you refer a friend to participate your name will be entered into a monthly drawing for great prizes, including an iPad2! Click here to read more about research studies at The Center.
