Carolyn,Where did you say you lived?  In Texas, every special needs child is eligible for public school at age three.  From birth to three years, they can be served by Early childhood Intervention.  the sad part is NO ONE tells enough parents this, so we did not find out about ECI until our son was two, so he only got about 9 months of ECI intervention.  Schools are supposed to do a " child find " and find the special needs children and provide services to them beginning at age three.

Other states should have similar programs.Haven

Haven, I live in Little Elm which is near Frisco. We are in the middle of due process over the IEE and are in settlement phase right now.... We are much closer than I ever thought we would be, but I don't know if we will get all that we are requesting. The only thing that I have found with child find is bias, refusal to serve and lies...... Plus, once things are said and done I will have to zip my lips I guess, but I haven't signed anything yet :)Sent from my iPad

yes, say all you want now, then you can just point people to the archives.  Once you " settle " as we did, your lips are sealed.  but if you go to DP and win, it is public record, and you can still talk.  If only parents were not gagged and people could talk about these things, then maybe things would change.  I think far too many parents are actually just being paid for silence, so the travesties can continue and districts won't have to stop what they are doing to so many other children.

Our problem is that our daughter has not been identified as disabled within the school district, so if we aren't careful, attorneys fees won't be paid. I am fairly confident that the IEE will show the disability and educational need.... However actually getting services is easier said than done, but I refuse to give up, as I am the sole breadwinner and private schools and home schooling is out of the question for us...CarolynSent from my iPad

Carolyn,Since your daughter is so young, I believe if they don't service her they have to pay for a private program.  Aren't there some good private schools in your area?  I know there are some good ones in Plano who specialize in early programs.

You are doing what is right.  I hope you are successful!  Hang in there!

I am aware that if they decide not to give her an IEP my next step will be to file due process and then have her ordered a child w disabilities and then request an appropriate education or private school... However, until we get past the IEE we cant fight that.....CarolynSent from my iPad
