Guest guest Posted April 7, 2012 Report Share Posted April 7, 2012 Have you checked out Astrid Gutsmann in ? I don't know much about her, but I think she does take some insurance. Launius in ville is good and cheap. He caters to the uninsured. He is great for thyroid. I don't know how deeply he gets into "hormones". He will not write for hydrocortisone. > >> > Helen,> > > > > > > > Did you have your Progesterone level checked?> > > > That can cause anxiety, if you are extremely low.> > > > I am only speaking from my own experience.> > > > I see Dr. Spurlock.> > > > > > > > > > > > From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> > > [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> ] On Behalf Of Helen> > Sent: Wednesday, April 04, 2012 1:15 PM> > To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> > > Subject: Re: adrenals (and thyroid) - Need GOOD> > adrenal doc in DFW> > > > > > > > > > > > I need a GOOD adrenal doc recommendation. Guest guest Posted April 8, 2012 Report Share Posted April 8, 2012 Thanks . I'm honestly wondering if the hypoglycemia can cause the morning anxiety? That's when my fasting insulin is so low. Cortisol levels are a bit low in the morning too, but not by much (finally got those down!) Just thinking aloud. Guest guest Posted April 8, 2012 Report Share Posted April 8, 2012 I could call Launius in ville and see if he does adrenals as well. How did you hear of Launius and Gutsmann. ville is a heck of a lot closer than . I'm in Arlington. Guest guest Posted April 8, 2012 Report Share Posted April 8, 2012 Launius does not do adrenals at all. His wife used to be a member of this group. He has treated a number of our members. I have never been his patient, but I have met him and visited with him a couple of times. Gutsmann treats some of our members. > > > >> > > > Helen,> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > > Did you have your Progesterone level checked?> > > >> > > > That can cause anxiety, if you are extremely low.> > > >> > > > I am only speaking from my own experience.> > > >> > > > I see Dr. Spurlock.> > > >> > > > > > > >> > > >> > > >> > > > From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com>> > > > [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> ] On Behalf Of Helen> > > > Sent: Wednesday, April 04, 2012 1:15 PM> > > > To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com>> > > > Subject: Re: adrenals (and thyroid) - Need> > GOOD> > > > adrenal doc in DFW> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > > I need a GOOD adrenal doc recommendation. Guest guest Posted April 8, 2012 Report Share Posted April 8, 2012 I see Gutsmann in . I've been with her for over 2 years now. I do really like her. At my last appointment we briefly talked about adrenals - she mentioned that in the past few years she has really been researching and learning about treating adrenals, but I did not ask about the treatment protocol she uses. I apologize. I should have. I can tell you that two years ago when I tested for adrenals (24 hour saliva) She wanted to put me on a bunch of supplements. I don't know if that has changed in 2 years. She takes just about any insurance out there. She does saliva testing for hormones (which would be out of pocket - or you have to file with your insurance). She does treat with bioidentical hormones when needed. I have always found her very helpful. Very willing to listen and to get to the bottom of my problems. Since I have seen her for so long, she trusts my opinion. I have a set of labs where I felt fabulous! and we are always trying to " match " those numbers. Which is a great thing. She never leaves my thyroid low. I started seeing her after Dr. Owens closed her practice. I had just suffered a miscarriage. Dr. Gutsman helped me to get my hormones and thyroid squared away and she treated me throughout my entire pregnancy. At one point in time during my pregnancy, I was suffering from high blood pressure. Even that my OB put me on a restricted work schedule. I felt my thyroid was a little low - because she does try to be very conservative. I took her a published paper on low thyroid and hypertension. She raised my thyroid dose and my high blood pressure went away. Just wanted to share... > > > Have you checked out Astrid Gutsmann in ? Guest guest Posted May 15, 2012 Report Share Posted May 15, 2012 My 13-year old daughter and I just went to see Dr. Launius, last Tuesday. She has low anti-body counts, severe symptoms, and a tsh that just rose to 2.96. She needed meds. I ran a saliva cortisol test for her prior to this appointment. However, Dr. Launius didn't pay any attention to the copy I gave him. He is a wonderful doctor! He spent an hour with us going over her history, and symptoms. I brought a copy of all her blood work labs. Dr. Launius started her on 120mg Armour. He wanted to go higher, but I was hesitant. He looked at my daughter's labs, and asked me how much Armour I'm taking (I'm hashi's/hypo). I told him 3 1/2 grains. Dr. Launius discussed the ranges of the labs, and told me these were manmade ranges. He told me that he would start my daughter on 120mg, and we would adjust until she found her " sweet spot " . My daughter had deficient vitamin D of 17. I had her on 5000iu sublingual supplements. He ordered a vitamin D hydroxy test, and her level was 39. He wants us to supplement with 10,000iu of vitamin D3. We got the results (copy of the labwork) via email. We were so thankful for his attention in the matter, because we had been to a " Top Doc " prior to this who thought counseling was in order. We didn't hold out much hope. I was so relieved that he saw what I saw! Before he left the room, he gave me a hug! How cool is that? The cost for the appointment and the vitamin D test came to a total of $205. Dr. Launius doesn't take any insurance at all. This is how he can keep his prices reasonable. The receipt provided has codes which allows filing with the insurance company. I haven't tried to do so, yet. One thing that should be mentioned is this...Dr. Launius will only see children who've gone through puberty. That's their cutoff. Today we have an appointment with Dr. Astrid Gutsman in (45-mile drive). You may be asking... " why a secod appointment? " Well, I decided to set a couple of appointments, in case Dr. Launius didn't work out. It's my understanding through one of the guys (who lives in ville) that she is phenomenal and treats his low testosterone. She also writes scripts for Erfa. He sees her weekly. She apparently works with adrenal problems. My daughter and I, both, have adrenal problems. She has low cortisol, and mine is high! My daughter can utilize the CT3M method to fix her cortisol, but I can't. Also, I have high RT3 that needs to be fixed. I have a GP, but he's only put me on 1 grain of Armour. He wouldn't raise it - I just don't think he understands Hashi's, and he treats by labs....ugh. He's good in other ways, though, so I keep him. He orders ultrasounds, or MRI's etc, if requested. Originally, I set the appt with Dr. Gutsman for my daughter, but I'm going to utilize it, instead, since she has a doc prescribing her meds. Plus, I think I'm going through the beginnings of menopause. I'll let you know my thoughts after the apppointment. By the way, Dr. Gutsman takes several insurances, but not mine! LOL Anyway, her prices are $118 for the visit and labs beginning at $189. I have done a lot of my own labs, so that price may not be accurate. One other doctor we visited from the " Top Doc " list was Dr. Elmore. The reviews stated that she doesn't go by labs. However, it was our experience that she does....she has her own set of numbers...she likes to see tsh below 2.5. My daughter's at that time was 1.57, but her FT4 was at the very bottom of normal range, and FT3 could have come up. The antibodies were in " normal " range, and she had all the symptoms of hypo! Her eyelids were swollen, she has a hoarse voice, extreme fatigue, etc. She wouldn't even consider a trial run with Armour. She advised counseling, and said to test her tsh once a year! It was very disappointing and cost $144. I have heard that she understands adrenals, though. Your mileage may vary. Mine, not so much. I hope this helps! > > > > > > > > Helen, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Did you have your Progesterone level checked? > > > > > > > > That can cause anxiety, if you are extremely low. > > > > > > > > I am only speaking from my own experience. > > > > > > > > I see Dr. Spurlock. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> > > > > [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> ] On Behalf Of Helen > > > > Sent: Wednesday, April 04, 2012 1:15 PM > > > > To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> > > > > Subject: Re: adrenals (and thyroid) - Need > > GOOD > > > > adrenal doc in DFW > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I need a GOOD adrenal doc recommendation. Guest guest Posted May 15, 2012 Report Share Posted May 15, 2012 I would be interested to know how Dr. Gutsmann treats low cortisol. So far, all I have heard is that she prescribes nutritional supplements, but no hydrocortisone. Dr. Launius will absolutely not address adrenal issues. But he is the best for thyroid, especially for those who need a very large dose. > > > > >> > > > > Helen,> > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> > > > > Did you have your Progesterone level checked?> > > > >> > > > > That can cause anxiety, if you are extremely low.> > > > >> > > > > I am only speaking from my own experience.> > > > >> > > > > I see Dr. Spurlock.> > > > >> > > > > > > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> > > > > From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com>> > > > > [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> ] On Behalf Of Helen> > > > > Sent: Wednesday, April 04, 2012 1:15 PM> > > > > To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com>> > > > > Subject: Re: adrenals (and thyroid) - Need> > > GOOD> > > > > adrenal doc in DFW> > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> > > > > I need a GOOD adrenal doc recommendation. Guest guest Posted May 16, 2012 Report Share Posted May 16, 2012 I just got back from seeing Dr. Gutsman. I brought my lab work, ultrasound, etc. We spoke about my particulars. I discussed how my " lab only " doctor only wanted to allow 1 grain of Armour, etc. She took notes the whole time, and really listened. We discussed my high numbers on my latest lab. With my history, she thought I might possibly be lacking sex hormones which also affect adrenals, too. I have high cortisol in the morning and night time. She looked at my list of supplements that I'm taking, and stated that she didn't know that I really needed that many. Not once did she offer any of her own. She accepts quite a few insurances, but not mine. She knew I was able to order some of my own labs, and offered me the opportunity to shop around for a lower price (since I'm a cash patient) if I wanted. Also, she drew up the lab draw to allow me to get it done closer to home (I'm 45 miles away from her). She wants me to take my NDT dosage down 1/4 grain until I see her again. At that time, my blood work will be in, and she'll have a better idea as to which direction we'll need to go. Dr. Gutsman reviewed my 24-hour saliva test, but since I don't have low cortisol, I can't tell you if she prescribes HC. She spoke about estrogen and progesterin, and testosterone. One thing I may have going on is menopause. We'll know more when my labs are completed. All in all, I feel really comfortable with Dr. Gutsman. She seems to know her stuff. My next appointment with her is on May 25th. Just a note on prices.....her office visit cost begins at $118, but mine cost $150. However, she did spend an hour with me. The labs I'm having done are: CBC/Chem with Lipids, DHEA Sulfate, FT3/FT4/TSH, FSH/LH, Testosterone Free & Total, Progesterone/Estradiol for $287.87. I chose not to shop around. I may change my mind...we'll see. > > > > > > > > > > > > Helen, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Did you have your Progesterone level checked? > > > > > > > > > > > > That can cause anxiety, if you are extremely low. > > > > > > > > > > > > I am only speaking from my own experience. > > > > > > > > > > > > I see Dr. Spurlock. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> > > > > > > [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> ] On Behalf Of > Helen > > > > > > Sent: Wednesday, April 04, 2012 1:15 PM > > > > > > To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> > > > > > > Subject: Re: adrenals (and thyroid) - > Need > > > > GOOD > > > > > > adrenal doc in DFW > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I need a GOOD adrenal doc recommendation. Guest guest Posted May 16, 2012 Report Share Posted May 16, 2012 You might want to check with your insurance to see which labs are in-network and if they will bill your insurance directly. > > > > > > >> > > > > > > Helen,> > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > > > Did you have your Progesterone level checked?> > > > > > >> > > > > > > That can cause anxiety, if you are extremely low.> > > > > > >> > > > > > > I am only speaking from my own experience.> > > > > > >> > > > > > > I see Dr. Spurlock.> > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > > > From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com>> > > > > > > [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> ] On Behalf Of> > Helen> > > > > > > Sent: Wednesday, April 04, 2012 1:15 PM> > > > > > > To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com>> > > > > > > Subject: Re: adrenals (and thyroid) -> > Need> > > > > GOOD> > > > > > > adrenal doc in DFW> > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > > > I need a GOOD adrenal doc recommendation. Guest guest Posted May 16, 2012 Report Share Posted May 16, 2012 The office is going to send me an itemized receipt, so I can begin getting reimbursed for out-of-network expenses. I know it will only be about 40-50 percent, but it's better than nothing. We have Tricare Prime (retired military) which is almost like medicaid. Dr. Gutsman accepts all other Tricare, except Prime. Thanks, I'll check about billing the insurance for labs. I " m also going to check into getting a different Tricare plan for myself. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Helen, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Did you have your Progesterone level checked? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > That can cause anxiety, if you are extremely low. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am only speaking from my own experience. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I see Dr. Spurlock. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > > > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> > > > > > > > > [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > > > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> ] On Behalf > Of > > > Helen > > > > > > > > Sent: Wednesday, April 04, 2012 1:15 PM > > > > > > > > To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > > > > > > > <mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups%40yahoogroups.com> > > > > > > > > Subject: Re: adrenals (and thyroid) > - > > > Need > > > > > > GOOD > > > > > > > > adrenal doc in DFW > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I need a GOOD adrenal doc recommendation. Guest guest Posted May 17, 2012 Report Share Posted May 17, 2012 I have high cortisol. He told me to take Seriphos and Adapt. The Seriphos, in particular, has helped significantly. I haven't been consistent in taking the Adapt. He also gave me some probiotics to aid with " leaky gut, " a leading cause of high cortisol. He also tested for gluten and suggested that I have other allergy tests done, but I haven't. > > What does he use to treat adrenal issues? > > > > Kim > > > > _____ > > From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups ] On Behalf Of Bearry > Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2012 10:21 AM > To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > Subject: Re: adrenals (and thyroid) - Need GOOD > adrenal doc in DFW > > > > > > Sorry for the late reply, I don't check this board too often. > > > > I see Dr. Hamel in south Arlington, Matlock and I20. Guest guest Posted May 17, 2012 Report Share Posted May 17, 2012 Glad you liked Dr. Gutsman. I really like her as well. She has really worked with me for the past 2 years. I need to have another cortisol test ran and see where I am. I'll do that soon and report back on her adrenal treatments... (2 years ago I was low cortisol, but we didn't treat because I got pregnant) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
