Guest guest
If your daughter can be on TXHmL then definitely do it. She can remain on the waitlists for the other waivers while she is on TXHm but it is a great waiver and all the services are CDS-Client directed. Be sure to ask them to explain to you about CDS services. It is a Medicaid Waiver program such as CLASS and HCS. IT would have the same form of Medicaid so it will be great. -----Original Message-----From: Texas-Autism-Advocacy [mailto:Texas-Autism-Advocacy ] On Behalf Of J. Has anyone any advice as to how to use this, should we get it? Coming with this would be Medicaid, if all goes as predicted. Does anyone have any feelings about whether going with services that just use regular Medicaid funds might be better?I'd really appreciate some insights. Ruede l.ruede@... Guest guest
Hi , Since no one else has answered I will try to help. But my son is only 7, so I don't know how relevant our experience is to yours. We aren't currently getting any speech or OT for him, but if we were we would use the regular Medicaid for that, since it provides a lot. We use the Professional and Technical Supports portion to pay for a BCBA who plans an ABA program for us. We use the rest of our funding to pay for ABA therapists and tutors for him. Overall, the program is great for us. We previously couldn't afford a BCBA or any therapists or tutors and I had to do everything myself. I don't know what your daughter's needs are, but you could just use the respite to give yourself a break, if that's what you need. We use the CDS option, and I would recommend it, because you get more hours that way. HTH Marilyn
Guest guest
Thank you Marilyn, and also , for replying. To anyone else who may wish to chime in, also: If CDS is Client Directed Services, where I'd have to hire, train, supervise and (maybe) fire service providers, I don't know how I could do that. I work full time and have my mother to care for in my off-hours as well as my 21-year-old daughter. Is there a good organization who could direct my daughter's services? We're in Fort Worth. I have wondered whether there's an outfit that could provide some respite weekends here and there, or perhaps a week here or there when my daughter is not in school (she will be in school for one more year). Other things are transportation and/or a transportation attendant to volunteer opportunities or a special community college program (year after next), or perhaps a day-hab program. I also wondered about dietary/nutritional advice and supplements (would those be adaptive devices?). Things I've also wondered are whether services must be used continually or can be accessed as needed, and whether having TXHml would mean my daughter couldn't have services from DARS. I'm feeling pretty lost, really. Thanks - Ruede l.ruede@... > > Hi , > > Since no one else has answered I will try to help.
