Hey everybody...

i have a quick couple of questions.. if you don't eat do you still have to

take your shot?? see, somedays i don't feel like eating and nothing sounds

good... so why should i take a shot just to eat something just to take

another shot.. it seems like a big useless circle to me...

and another question.. does anyone have any information about piercings and

tattoos and whether it is safe for someone with diabetes to get either... i

was looking into a piercing and am scared because i don't want it to get

infected...

Thanks..

Piercings are okay. I have six in my ears. However, you must be sure that

proper procedures of cleanliness are observed.

Hi Group, I have a new Oxygen Company.. The girl that came today just tickedme off I think .lol Now for the questions. How often have you been told tochange your tubing, bottle and cannula. This girl said change everythingonce a week. She also said I can only use 25' of hose because the pressurewill be inaccurate. Well I hate to say it but my bathrooms are 30 feet frommy machine.. NOW WHAT ! I really didn't like her so I'm looking for you allto give me some good ammo to slam her with. She said Medicare and InsuranceCO's will not let them bring more supplies.. I think that's (excuse me)crap.Ok I think I'm done. Best to all. Peggy

My 02 company has never said that before. They are always bringing new supplies including portable carts when the little rubber footies come off. Including today, dropping of extra cannula. My supplier say to change out when it begins to look *yucky*. I'd check that out with another O2 company or even Medicare at their 1-800 #. I will check tomorrow with my O2 company to see what they say and will get back to you.

My husband gets his supplies through the VA in Little Rock and we have NO

complaints at all about his supplies. The man comes every week and restocks

what he has used and always leaves extra hoses, washers for the portable

tanks, etc. In fact since my husband works, he has the big unit in our

house and a 2nd unit at his barber shop. The man also told us that he could

connect 2 of the 25 feet hoses together and use them if we wanted but we

haven't. I think they make a 50 foot hose too because he use to have some

that were just way too long! We move the unit we have at the house from

bedroom to living room too since it has rollers. Sorry you're having so

much trouble. You'd think that people would go way out of their way to help

those that are having the most trouble and try their best to make it easier

on them instead of harder. Guess that's just me though! Good luck! Judy

My company has a device that checks the output of O2. It look like a thing you check your car radator. They test it at the unit to see if the 3 lpm is really 3 lpm. They should be able to put it on a the end of 25 ft tube and at 50 ft. tube and see if there is a drop in flow. If it doen't drop use the 50 ft Peggy wrote: Hi Group, I have a new Oxygen Company.. Moving that o2 unit around the house is a pane. Get the 50 ft.hose and set it up in middle of the house, My 50' will let me get to the washer in the basement. (Yes I have allready told the group I do the wash but it take a little longer with the PF) P Dean Cossey wrote: My husband gets his supplies through the VA in Little Rock and we have NO complaints at all about his supplies. I have a friend who is a respiratory therapist and he says that 50 feet is the max you can use...he says that if you are on 3 liters, you will get 3 liters at the end of 50 feet...but it will be less if the tubing is longer than that. And you should change the tubing once a week...you don't want any bacteria growing in the tubing because of the moisture.

The problem I had with 50 foot tubing was humidity...I was so dry and didn't think the humidity was traveling that far.

You can always ask to have someone else come to your house...maybe that girl was new or something.

I have had 2 sessions with pulminary rehab and find that the exercise makes me feel better. As for NAC, The rehab instructor's dad was treated for PF about 2 yrs before he died in his sleep. She said she got him an appointment at duke hosp in durham, n.c. for a second opinion. The doctor there put him on NAC and she said it helped her dad. I am not up to the suggested dosage yet because of all the heart meds i'm on, but I've took 1 bottle with no noticeable side effects and rehab people tell me I'm doing great. I'm assuming that you stay on this as long as you feel like it's helping you, but I would not load up until I tried it awhile. I went along with rehab to keep the doctor in my corner. I will not tell him I'm on supplements because he will laugh and say I'm buying ground up hay. You will find that you will need to read a lot on different web sites and make up your own mind as to which way you want to go. There is a lot of information out there. Grey

Questions

I just received the information from the Pulmonary Foundation.Wow. A downer to read.

Questions:

1. Why is exercise important?

2. I'm waiting to begin pulmonary therapy and I wonder if you find this helpful/necessary/beneficial?

I know "it depends" on the who, what and so on.

3. I checked out Puritan and the price for NAC w/them is about half what I just paid. Is this something that you find is a long term supplement? I hate to buy in bulk only to find it's a temporary thing.

Thanks so much.--Sher

Sher - Exercise is very important. We want to keep the good part of our lungs as strong as we can. Pulmonary Rehab is awesome (Peggy, it sounds as if you had a bad experience) because you learn how to exercise while being monitored. When I went through the program, I was hooked up to a computer at all times - respiratory therapists monitored my heart and oxygen saturation. They taught me how to breathe and cough more efficiently. The programs across the country are run differently - maybe other people who have gone through rehab can share their stories. I find that exercising for me (and all I do is walk) helps keep me sane. You feel like you are accomplishing something. Of course, before anyone does any type of exercising, check with your doctor. It's imperative that we keep our oxygen levels above 88-90. I also highly recommend a pulse oximeter. It's a great way to

keep tabs on how our hearts and oxygen saturation is doing. Honestly, I should probably be lifting weights to keep my arm strength up, but I haven't gotten that far. NAC is a long term supplement. You probably won't see results for about 5-6 weeks. It does seem to help my cough. It's not as sharp or as frequent as it used to be. Leanne Moderator DX IPF 1-16-03 PS. Peggy, I am the phone operator at the Wal-Mart here in Lebanon, 1/2 mile from home. All I do is sit and watch rump spread. Without pain meds 24/7 pain will run life, Without I am unable to even get out of bed. Before found Dr who treats pain with meds. I spent 5 years almost entirely in bed. Didn't like it at all.Now I live with the thought " You might slow me down but you will not stop me." As far as working, I am just trying to keep ins.SSI or disability so much trouble will keep just as I am as long as I can. Then go on short term disability then long term at work, will cover 18 months. God Bless You and help you fight this beast we all are fighting. I think the sooner we read every horrible thing about this disease the sooner we can get on with the living part of our life.. I have been out visiting today, doing a lot of Heart jogging (laughing) My heart is so happy it got a good work out. Anyhow don't let this scare you out of your life. I am praying for you and yours. Sher PF 5-06 Questions I just received the information from the Pulmonary Foundation.Wow. A downer to read. Questions: 1. Thanks so

much.--Sher

Grey,

Life just gets funner and funner doesn't it! I am praying that this procedure will go well for you. I think the reason that mine was tough was because the ureter completly closed and stuck. My stink stayed in for a few weeks and I never had to go back.

My prayers are with you! Let us know when you get home and feel like it.

Hugs,

Joyce >> I check in at hosp 5:15 tomorrow morning for kidney procedure----stint in the tube that comes from kidney to bladder. Doctor says that if it has to stay in-----He will do this every 6 months. Something else to look forward to. Grey> Questions> > > I just received the information from the Pulmonary Foundation.Wow.
