We've had a wonderful time this year bringing quality performers to children with ASD (ages 8 to 13) – focusing on individual skills and talents coupled with audience participation. Local musicians, in classical, rock, blues, pop and jazz, guide children through numerous activities exploring the dynamics of movement and music. Each evening has a different featured guest artist to perform a private concert for the children and share their musical expertise. Breakout sessions are lead by UT students from the School of Music and the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education. Local musicians assist during the breakout sessions with songwriting and performance, an exploration of various musical instruments for experimentation and learning, and the integration of music and gross motor movement. The evening culminates with a concert where those who wish can perform a favorite song with one of our local musicians (perhaps even one they wrote in our songwriting session!). These performances, and other moments from the evening, are filmed and sent to the parents as a follow-up. To register, please click here to go to our online registration system. We hope to see you this Friday, April 20th, for an evening full of music, laughter, and some rock star performances. (Your child could be giving one of them!)
