Guest guest
Too much extra work eh? How about you drop him off one weekend. Or she could take him to a nice quiet restaurant. Any number of things parents with unendless patience deal with every day. In the past our school has taken the lifeskills class on training trips out in the community during TAKS testing. Not fair... Guest guest
The answer is that it isn't fair at all. my son has to take the TAKS. i am not happy about it and the school knows this. and yet they don't care....i did however tell them in ard just last week that if he wasn't finished at 315 when school was over that he was going to be finished reguardless. they wrote it down and we will see when wednesday is over with, cause that is when testing is completed. sadest part is sam knows the content but hasen't a CLUE as to what to do with it. all the school wants are the scores that sam is capeable of producing.... forget the fact that his social skilss are LACKING and multiple other issues.now i am venting and rambling....good luck to all of you Subject: TAKSTo: "TEXAS AUTISM" <Texas-Autism-Advocacy >Date: Monday, April 25, 2011, 6:21 PM I looks like this week ALL teachers are recruited to help with TAKS testing so our kids in resource will NOT receive anything this week! Guest guest
Have none of the districts offered the TAKS-M? Kids in resource should certainly be offered this test if they are receiving a modified curriculum. It's late for this now, but I'd raise it with your districts for next year. > > > > Subject: TAKS > To: " TEXAS AUTISM " <Texas-Autism-Advocacy > > Date: Monday, April 25, 2011, 6:21 PM > > Â > > > I looks like this week ALL teachers are recruited to help with TAKS testing so our kids in resource will NOT receive anything this week! Guest guest
>I looks like this week ALL teachers are recruited to help with TAKS testing so our kids in resource will NOT receive anything this week! How is this fair?? That is unacceptable, isn't it? Is it the same as refusing our children an education? Tristan stayed home at least 6 days this year for that reason. I think by law they are required to make up those days in some way. The problem may be that we allow them to get away with it. It might take nothing more than bringing it to their attention. Maybe they would exempt our kids teacher from this task, so that they continue their IEP as is required by law. I may address this next year in our school district. My younger grandson also was exempt from school on those days, but because he had passed his TAKS tests. He skipped first grade, and has maintained a straight A average every year through 6th grade this year. For him it was a reward, but Tristan doesn't benefit from missing school. He is a loving cousin to Tristan who has moderate to severe autism. C.
