Guest guest
Happy Holidays all! I am still needing help as to why I feel so tired. (Non functioning really) Diagnosed Oct '11 Hypothyroidism TSH 3.8 (Fasting) Started Compounded natural thyroid FELT AWESOME!!!! last about 1.5 weeks then crashed. Labs on 11/15: (non fasting- have taken 30 mg or 1/2 grain compound natural thyroid for 16 days) T3 total 99 (71-180) TSH 1.34 (.450-4.5) Free T4 1.10 (.82-1.77) Doc recommends I am fine no increase and possibly just depressed- Grrr.. did my own research took ZRT saliva tests... all is well there. DHEAS 5 (2-23) Cortisol am 6.2 (3.7-9.5) Cortisol Noon 2 (1.2-3.0) Cortisol Evening .9 (.6-1.9) Cortisol Bed .4 (.4-1.0) New labs 12/23/11 (non-fasting) T3 Free 3.2 (2.0-4.4) T4 Free 1.15 (.82-1.77) - would you expect this to be higher than the last labs run? seems like it stayed the same, I thought T4 builds in your system. DHEA 231.4 (60.9- 337)- so lab draw is different from saliva Thyroid Peroxidase TPO AB 11 (0-34 Antithyroglobulin AB <20 (0-40) RT3 not back yet Still tired, tried Armour for 3 days, literally thought I was going to die. Went back to natural compound and felt GREAT the first day then slowly steadily crashing. Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Dr Sheldon was aweful dismissed all my symptoms and instructed me to come off thyroid medication that I do not have a thyroid disorder. I have to say I did feel better not being on any medication, just a little tired...on meds I am EXHAUSTED. Dr Gutsmann is very kind and caring she said that even though Im only taking a small dose that it still maybe too much for my body all at one sitting and suggested to split the doses throughout the day. GRRR... and the weight gain! It seems like my own metabolism did a better job. 12 pounds now in two months. (And yes I am eating usual Christmas crap, but in the past its only a 3-4 pound increase and usually about 2 weeks to come off). Thanks! Guest guest
Your experience is quite typical for someone after they start thyroid - you feel great for 1-2 weeks and then crash. That's because you need an increase as your body adjusts to having some extra thyroid, it's letting you know it still needs more. Your Free T4 is still quite low and since you didn't have Free T3 run originally, it's hard to see if that's moved at all. Splitting doses might help somewhat but ISTM that you are still under medicated - 30mg/.5 grain is a very small dosage. One question is whether you took the thyroid before they did the labs? If so, you're numbers are likely falsely high. Most folks find that increasing every 2-4 weeks works best till you get to an optimal dose. You should ask your doctor about this. My son's doc has written two separate Rxes - one that is the amount he was taking with a small increase and then a separate one with a smaller dose that allows him to add these pills and increase every couple weeks. Your cortisol actually isn't in the ideal range. Many clueful docs suggest that your cortisol should be near the upper end of the range in the morning and you are at the bottom of the range in the evening. So, it looks to me that your body is struggling as you drop lower in the range as the day goes by. Intolerance to thyroid hormone is a sign of adrenal issues (even the package inserts for the synthetics note that you should first treat adrenal issues). Also, the more energy at night is another symptom - your body is making a last ditch effort to get your cortisol up. One important thing to consider is that cholesterol is what your body uses to produce all your hormones. Many folks have bought into the cholesterol is evil story and don't have enough healthy fats in their diet. Also, vitamin B5 is essential for hormone production. You might ask your doctor to look at your vitamin B levels (B12 is one that is often low as most of us have low levels of the enzymes necessary to absorb it in the gut). You might ask the doctor about taking a vitamin B supplement - a B50 or B100. Good luck! B. > > Happy Holidays all! > > I am still needing help as to why I feel so tired. Guest guest
Hello and thank you for the explanation. Doctor (one who was recommended on this site and in my opinion would give me more meds if I asked for it) stated that I do not need an increase and actually decreased my medication to 15 mg (1/4 grain) she thinks I am getting too much. She also thinks cortisol looks great and has a nice and has a nice decline curve throughout thee day. I did not take medication that day for the labs. And fasted other than coffee with cream about 6 hrs prior. Thanks again. > > > > Happy Holidays all! > > > > I am still needing help as to why I feel so tired.
