The specialist in Lexington said, if my disease is what he thinks it is, quitting smoking will greatly increase my chances of living. Well, I guess we all will know more the evening of May 22. When I get home that day from going to see the specialist and having all them tests, I will be sure to let everyone know how it went and what the Dr. said. There is one thing I am concerned about...he said he wants to put me on prednisone. (Dang, is that the only steroid there is?) He said he will fix me up with a diabetes specialist who will help me keep my blood sugar down while taking prednisone. Now....He wants me to lose at least 100 lbs., however, after reading all the horror stories on here about prednisone, how am I suppose to lose weight on a

It bothers me that my primary care doctor waited so long to send me to lung doctor. Last time I went to see primary doctor, the nurse checked me with oxy meter. She said they just now started doing that. What kind of medicine are these people practicing. I started to say it should be required, but that would cost medicare and ins co more money. I don't like to be mad. My kidney doc hit the nail on the head. My swelling has gone down and I hang around the bath room and have lost 5lb of fluid so far. Information might help some of you with swelling. I have been bothered with this for a long time. Try to be happy and think of good times. All of my children and grands are here today fixing their mother sunday dinner. God Bless You All.......Grey

Hey, Grey: I am having a lot of swelling too. I have to go tomorrow and have a urine test for my kidneys. Will this test tell if my kidneys are malfunctioning? Hello Barb, My kidney functions have been deterating for a number of years. I figured I had kidney disease and it would help kill me. My primary doc sent me to urology surgeon and he performed several procedures trying to find out what was going on, I have been bounced back and forth between doctors to see if my body would tolerate the operation. So far I have no regrets. I think I have an enlarged heart also. My heart doctor said my heart was pumping at 25% several years ago. He reevaluated me last fall for a fibulator and said I would not qualify. He claims the heart is pumping at 65% now. I don't have chest pain like I did for awhile. I could not afford all this stuff if I were not on medicare and good supplement ins. Medicare and ins co has spent a pile on me in the last 15 yrs. The kidney surgery will hopefully buy me more time in that department. In my case of bad legs. I guess the combination of so much going wrong keeps em guessing about our legs. Just a tired old wore out body. Hang in there and keep trying. That's the best you can do. Grey 10-05

Hey Barb, They do a lot of renal scans on my blood work and this information determines how well my kidneys are filtering the blood. I'm not sure how much information is obtained from a urine test. Sugar----Uric Acid etc. Dehydration. Have a good day.......Grey 10-05

My dr. is playing dr.

That's a shame, . Drs. should have compassion, empathy and genuine concern toward their patients. And most important, knowledge. Even if they do not know anything regarding the particular disease, they should at least admit it and assist in finding a referral to a Dr. that does. But we continue on in spite of the Drs. shortcomings, because we want to live and have quality of life. Hope abounds continually. May God continue to touch our spirits and encourage us all.
