Hi gang,

Saw the ENT doc today and got a camera up my nose and down my throat. Pleasant! He diagnosed Diffuse Leukoplakia of the larynx. Which means lesions on my voice box. This is usually seen in heavy smokers (never smoked) or heavy drinkers (never drank one drop) or aids patients. Now, the only link to that is that my immune system is suppressed with Prednisone and Cellcept.

He is going to do a biopsy under general anethesia at the hospital if my docs allow it. All this just in time for my evaluation in St. Louis. He told me not to even whisper. Aaaargh!!! I am the queen here...how can I rule without a voice??? How can I go for my evaluation and sit down with doctors for a conference and have no voice?

So, now I am furiously writing notes. Another downer! It is either premalignant or malignant. He does not know. Good grief!! I think I have had every malady known to mankind.

And, hey, I drove myself there and back! That makes me feel good. I was shaky, but so tired of being dependant. I have taken myself to the last two doc appts. Yeah!!! Got into a little trouble on the way home in rush hour traffic..I began coughing up gunk...couldn't find a Kleenex handy....and my throat was still numb. I just prayed until I got home and spit. Yuk! What a glamorous life!

Hugs to all,

Joyce, I am one of those people who read all the posts and "input" info into my blond brain. I am a caregiver and am looking from the outside in. I find you absolutely remarkable. (not saying that the other members of the "gang" are not remarkable) but you renew my faith in God. Everytime I see a new member my heart just aches, but you show such strength, I just cannot explain myself.... AND thats unusual for me Thank God for computers. You may not be allowed to speak, but your beautiful voice comes across LOUD AND STRONG.

Joyce, I'm so glad they caught it, I'm not so glad that you have one more thing in your cup. Know you're in all our prayers. I hear you on feeling good about getting yourself to appointment s on your own. I've decided to try not to do that myself. I'm finding that sometimes MD's deny what they've told me in the past.

p.s. You'll always be a Queen, you've got a heart of gold.

Take care, LynnA

Joyce The American sign lang. books are very easy to use and learn from. My children have been using signs since they were 5 & 6 yrs old.. You only need basics. I think you can probably get them on line I haven't looked. When I had my thyroid surgery I used it because I was afraid to talk.. LOL.. Ray has been home since Thurs and my fingers are tired..

Peggy,

Did you say that he was blind, deaf and mute? If so how can he see sign language? How does he communicate?

I actually know the alphabet and some of the other stuff....but no one else does, so it does me no good to sign. I am just hating this. How long were you 'speechless'?

We talk to him like Helen Keller. He feels out hands.. extremely smart. He has the sweetest spirit. He talks on our arms, backs .. He thinks we can understand. lol HE IS A REAL MIRICAL. He was only 1 lb 5oz. at birth, He was put into pure O2 which burned out his nerve centers to his eyes and ears.

he turned 52 yesterday. We treat him like one of the kids.. Shame on us.. His favorite thing is building,, hammers saws.. He's a trip to be around// Anyhow have a Wonderful Sunday.. Peggy 9/04 ipf

Peggy,

Did you say that he was blind, deaf and mute? If so how can he see sign language? How does he communicate?

I actually know the alphabet and some of the other stuff....but no one else does, so it does me no good to sign. I am just hating this. How long were you 'speechless'?

Waaaagh

Is he your brother or brother-n-law? Has he lived a normal life....job, family, etc? It is fascinating! It is also humbling...I shouldn't complain!

He is environmentally retarded. since he has never seen or heard anything all he knows is what he has been taught. Well he does things that amaze us. it's almost like he can see and hear. He went to the Helen Keller Center in N. Y. for a while. and several other places to learn life skills.

Once he meets someone he always remembers by touching their hands and arms. When he had the cancer his Dr ask me if he was depressed or any of those things.. NO he doesn't know the word cancer so he didn't fear it. He never complained through two surgeries kemo and 32 radiation treatments. He has taught me so much about how to deal with serious illness. He is always happy and ready to help in what ever we're doing.

I've got to go to bed.. God Bless you with a peaceful night. Peggy

Hey, Joyce: Sorry to hear that you have one more problem added to your list. I sure hope everything turns out well for you. The waiting and not knowing is the hardest part. Hang in there girl...you will be in my prayers. Barb in KY ipr or pf/ 11-05 Ann wrote: Joyce, I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. "Jesus I trust in YOU".
