The above is a link for the release of an online article regarding incidental

findings in MRI's in children who need/require routine brain MRI's. The gist of

the article is how to tell family that these anomalies were found, yet require

no intervention. What I thought was interesting was the percentage of Chiari 1

malformations found.

The first paragraphs describes, among other things, the test subjects and

symptoms - one symptom is headaches. Yet, the article states that Chiari 1 was

an incidental finding. Hmmmm...headaches, yet Chiari was an incidental finding.

I wonder if this article becomes well-known, if it will premise peditrician

education of the symptoms of Chiari so for some kiddos, the Chiari with present

headaches will not be " so " incidental.

The article came through at a very strange time for me. I belong to the

National Association of Special Educators, which sends out what they consider

interesting article leads once a week. Just so happens that Wednesday night I

had one of the worst Chiari head pain episodes that I've had to date (I know

what brought it on though). Just interesting timing for me ...
