I don't know if I would be any good here or not. The most common association with gallbladder problems is stones. From my understanding those can be very painful and present with a host of symptoms which include nausea, diahhrea, vomiting, fever, swollen abdomen and many other things. My gallbladder just wasn't functioning and the only symptoms I had were heartburn like symptoms and right before it was removed a lot of nausea. Hi Donna,

Try going to google and looking up " gallbladder  attack " and you will probably learn more than you ever wanted to know about it.  Otherwise when my brother gets up here with the laptop for me to use, I will look it up and send a bunch of the stuff to you.  I am not suppposed to be on this computer.

Funny you should mention this tonight, because there is a chance that I have gallstones even though I no longer have a gallbladder.  Or pancreatitis, or gastritis, and probably c-diff again now.  I am feeling just wonderful and my blood sugars keep dropping really low today.. had full course of my diabetes meds and then was made NPO (nothing by mouth) in case I had to have an endoscopy... didn't happen Thank God!!!

Good Luck!

Anne

When I had gallstones, initially it was just heartburn after certain foods...mainly greasy foods or foods that specifically had red sauce. It got to a point where I could tell by how I felt if I could eat something and not have problems or if I should avoid it. I never had any issues with diarrhea, or swelling in my abdomen. The indigestion part probably went on for at least a year...but both mom & dad get indigestion so I didnt think much about it. THEN the pains started. I was literally doubled over in pain...and Im the person who had a piece of free floating cartilage & partially torn meniscus in my knee and walked around without feeling pain. My mom didnt think her couch was going to survive my constant position changes in attempts to get comfy. I would start vomiting until there was nothing left to vomit...about once or twice an hour for 10-12 hours each episode. I was so weak I was shaking to the point where if I didnt know better I wouldve thought I was having a seizure. The pains were up my right shoulder, my entire back, my right arm. When they did the ultrasound, having never seen an ultrasound before I was able to pick out my gall bladder...it looked like a red hot chili pepper...except it was solid white. My surgeon said another week and he would not be able to do the new laproscopic surgery b/c I had infection setting in. I went to the ER by ambulance for one of my attacks...only time Ive been in a bus before as a patient.

What Im wondering is if this pain was worse than child birth...b/c if it is, Im good to go there when the time comes...lol.

Ann

As always glad to help. If you think it may be your gallbladder, you really should go to the ER (I think it is A & E over there). If it ruptures it could be life threatenign. Madeline http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lungs_on_Vacation/

Ann you're like me. A high pain tolerance. I would say that even though mine wasn't painful it would probably rank higher than child bearing. Madeline http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lungs_on_Vacation/

I second that.  Once they decided that my gallbladder had to go, they wouldn't even let me leave the hospital to go pick up my CPAP and feed my cats, they said I had to STAY until it was OUT.  They booked the OR for 11pm.  A gallbladder gone bad can apparently turn into pancreatitis, as well as rupture.

I was on pain meds for my chronic pain, and the pain was *still* about a 7 or an 8, and I can't remember the last time I threw up that much.  My kidney stones hurt worse, but the gallbladder pain was *not* for wimps.

As always glad to help.  If you think it may be your gallbladder, you really should go to the ER (I think it is A & E over there).  If it ruptures it could be life threatenign.
