Vickie, Stevia is 100% natural , "0" carbs and lowers your bloodsugar naturally. It does not turn to anything else in your body; it is the most healthy sweetener that your could take. It is also good for your teeth and reduces cavities. pictures BettyFrom: Vicki

Yes, I am hypoglycemic, but stevia is not a sugar. Inulin is a carbohydrate though, that probably converts to sugar. google mentioned similar to fructose. I hope I can buy it without inulin. Vicki KI’ve been using stevia extract for almost 20 years. The brand I used for most of that time was Wisdom of the Ancients, which is now SweetLeaf. Production of the dark extract (by Wisdom/SweetLeaf) seems to have ceased, so I now use the Planetary Herbals extract. All dark extracts have a licorice-like aftertaste, but they do use the complete stevia plant, and having gotten used to the aftertaste, I just don’t much like the clear drops. I tried two commercial brands available in the grocery store (Truvia and one other), and I would caution avoidance because they contain other sweeteners that may cause unpleasant side effects. Other than that, the only real potential problem I’ve notice with stevia is its effect on blood sugar—if you are hypoglycemic or diabetic, caution is warranted, at least until you know how it affects you.

Many of the products sold as Stevia contain fillers (I think all the ones that are in individual packets) as it takes a light dusting of stevia in tea for example to get sweetness somewhat equivalent to table sugar. You can buy pure Stevia but usually not in a regular grocery store. B.
