We get freebie 32 oz. mugs from restaraunts and convenience stores all the time. I try to drink 4 32 oz. glasses of water a day. That is a BIG goal, I usually manage 3 though. As for my challenge to get out and move at least some every day, I went by the thrift shop with hubby before he went in to work this afternoon, and walked around for the better part of an hour. On my second 32 oz. glass of water for the day too. Good luck all!

Guest guest
Hello fellow challengers - Well, it is the end of the first week, almost - I have not done very well. I remembered to take my BG level at least twice a day this past week - no problem, but - it has been very high - I figured it was the heat since our central air has been on the fritz for about 3 weeks now - because it sure wasn't what I was eating - which was almost nothing. It has been 175-229 in the AM and just before dinner yesterday it was 325. Very bad - Plus, my angina kicked in and I had heart palpitations, and breathing problems. I've been complaining all week long - and I generally am not the complainer in this family! <VBG> This afternoon, Bill bought a portable air conditioner for the office and our sonilaw installed it right away for us. My BG was 174 this am before breakfast (and a/c) and just before dinner it was 113 - and that was after just 2 hours in the a/c. Thank God!! I was beginning to think I was never going to get straight! It is over 90 in the house proper without that central air - but in the computer room here it is now a comfortable 78. I sure hope we find someone to fix this thing soon! I have a feeling I'm going to be spending a lot of time in here until we do! Needless to say with the heat that high and my angina, I have not been able to do the 2 minutes of hard exercise on my exercycle I pledged, but we have been out most days walking in the mall after my dr appts. I asked Bill to bring my exercycle into the computer room but we will have to make room for it first. I cannot believe that the heat had such an affect! When I went in for my blood pressure check, my doctor had asked for some BG figures as well - but I had forgotten to take them with me - I'll call them in tomorrow - I'm sure that he will have something to say about the dramatic drop as well with the heat. I must have drank 2 gallons of iced tea and water over the past 24 hours - I feel so dehydrated. The only thing that didn't go wrong this week is no tiredness from chemo! <G> So, all in all, the first week didn't go so well - but I'm hoping to do better this coming week with my new a/c! Guest guest
- It is probably better that you didn't do the exercise in that heat. Exercising in the heat is NEVER recommended for anyone with a heart condition.(but you probably already knew that!) Hope it gets better with the portable unit! Good Luck! in Cincinnati

Guest guest
Thanks, . Yes, I did already know that <G> - but I was still feeling guilty for not being able to! I'll get my " exercise " the next couple days straightening out this room, though - they had to move my desk in order to get the a/c into the window. Not to mention the backlog of genealogy data I have accumulated but have not been able to get to because it was so hot!!

Guest guest
Not doing bad with the water, but not staying on the carbs very well. I do well for about four days, then day five, I fall off the wagon. I'm going to see my endo tomorrow, talk to her about it and see what we may be able to do. in Cincinnati
Guest guest
LOL! oh Meenie! I am just not doing good at all. I have gained weight instead of losing. I tried the Dr Atkins diet and just can't take it. I have never been able to be on that diet. It just throws my system off so bad. I have the T factor diet that I lost alot of weight on and have been looking at counting fat and carbs and seeing if that will help. AND WATER! HAH. I did go and get some water bottles and put them in the fridge. That had helped alot because I know I have to drink 3 of those bottles a day so I wake up with one and drink one in mid day and go to bed with one. As far as exercise NOT GOOD! I did however go and buy a Taebo tape. LOL!! I have watched it twice!!!!! Mike on the other hand has lost about 20 pounds!! I am proud and envious of him. Well I will do it but will have to chose another plan. Have you heard of Sugar busters? What is that about? Don't give up on me! Guest guest
Sheila - I won't give up on you! I smoke, which is REALLY bad for diabetics, and I bought some nicorette. It had some really good advice. If you are not successful this time, don't get discouraged. When you are ready, try again. You will eventually be successful. Stick with us, kid, we will help and support you! in Cincinnati

Guest guest
I seem to be managing the water OK. Have skipped a couple of salads though which was not so good. My line dancing, though, which started out as a 'maybe I'll check out a new class' is going great guns! I am in 2 classes at the senior center each of which lasts 90 minutes. I seem to be sticking with it - it helps that the instructors are dynamos in their late 70's (or maybe 80's) very enthusiastic and energetic who put me to shame. One has kept me after class two times now to make sure I've picked up the basic steps ok. They both check all of us regularly to see that we are drinking our water. If I stand too long in one place or go walking my knees ache until I can sit down - this doesn't happen with the line dancing! At Tuesday's class we learned a new dance to Burl Ive's 'a little bitty tear let me down' The darn song has been running through my head for 2 days now! I go to bed with it and wake up with it. The line dance has a new (to me at least) step called 'the fish tail' - it is quite awkward and if done correctly and slowly would cause me to fall on my face. I am in the process of switching over to a new e-mail carrier. Looks like I succeeded in getting to this list OK under it. Life is good!
