Guest guest
I was about to ask the same thing! EJ Fayetteville (NC) Communications ----Original Message Follows---- Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 08:30:28 -0700 hi, What system did you buy? How many priority choices to you have (we have 9)? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Guest guest
hi, What system did you buy? How many priority choices to you have (we have 9)? Do you have color code choices for call types? Do you have signs or symbols next to unit #s to designate double unit/mdc/k9/etc.? Do have reverse video for new/updated calls? Do you have color codes for unit status? A barbershop quartet can be just as thrilling as a full blown symphony orchestra.....in other words, keep it as simple as you can. When it's new, all the bells/whistles sound really neat, but the screen can get awful busy (glaringly colorfully obscene) real fast. Bob in Tacoma Law Enforcement Support Agency-Dispatcher By the way, we have an opening, our director is retiring...(anyone remember the " fist in the bucket of water " story?)(ROFLMAO). Guest guest
WHOA, see I did not know what I needed to know to ask an intelligent question. Let's see if I can give some answers to get some answers. We have a meeting on Monday to walk through how we do things now and to try to figure out how it might be done with CAD. We had a meeting on 09/11/00 to get reacquainted and look at how the system was going to be installed. It was very low key and relaxed. Now I get the feeling the pressure will start to build. I like the KISS principle. I am often the last S, Silly or in some cases Stupid depending how I managed to mess up. Besides there are plenty of things to distract me already, phones, radios, computers, Cops, Records and the occasional cup of coffee. I really do appreciate the help. I already have more questions to ask. Nicholson PD Northbrook IL, Communications 1401 Landwehr Rd. Northbrook, IL 60062 ext. 0 nicholson@... Guest guest
<<5. What is reverse video? >> A normal call is black (or whatever color depending on the call priority)on a white screen.....reverse would be white writing outlined in black, until the call is selected to be read/dispatched, then it changes to normal black on white. Supplemented calls come in reverse also until read. On a busy night the screen sometimes looks like a zebra posing as Carmen Miranda.. Guest guest
Hi, Guess I should have said, we answer 9-1-1, dispatch the PD and transfer FD and EMS calls to a Fire Dispatch. We do plan to have icons for the FD, PW, Village Administration and such because when the big one hits we end up being tasked with keeping track of everyone. Guest guest
-----Original Message----- A few thoughts here.... I'm trying to keep in mind that you are starting from scratch, yet not over-simplify things.... We used to have 9 priorities, that was deemed " too many " , so we cut it down to 4, then added animal control; they have 3 priorities, so now we are back up to 7! Our criteria is this: Priority ones (shooting, stabbing, mva w/ injuries, robbery, etc) should have a unit ON SCENE in 5 min or less. Priority twos (mva unk inj, disorder w/ weapons, escalating domestic, etc) should have a unit ON SCENE in 10 min or less. all others, as soon as possible without pulling from outside the zone. My status screen looks something like this: S A305 0005 1105 Mountain Creek Rd. 2245 DOMVIO showing status on scene (S) for unit (A305) time of status, loc, sequence number, and activity type. our status screen can be customized by dispatcher preference, including colors. the default is red for on scene, blue for enroute, yellow for at a post (hospital, jail, etc), lt green for available, and white for dispatched, purple for out of service. there is a timer function also; it automatically sets for 5 min if the status is T (traffic stop) to remind you to check on them, and can be manually reset to blink in another 5, or set for 30 min when they check out on meal break, etc (Our CAD is Tiburon, by the way) any call with new information will have the sequence number blinking so the dispatcher knows to check it email me off list if there is anything else you want to know....I have a CAD manual around here somewhere! In case anyone cares. > > Bob in Tacoma We have Tiburon CAD from, say, 12 years ago ... it has been tweaked a little bit but it's woefully inadequate for the amount of traffic we are doing now (we are on 203,000-something for this year; when I started 3 1/2 years ago we had more dispatchers and hadn't even broken 200,000 yet). I have seen the newer CAD and I am jealous (thank you, Chattanooga PD, for making me feel deprived; I love ya anyway). I would also like to have PC stations so that we could access everything from any terminal - CAD and the in-house BULLET system which covers e-mail, records, paging, etc. We still have those command-driven dumb terminals at the CAD stations. And the PC-based bullet shows a picture when you pull up the person's history, which comes in real handy at times. It's a real pain in the wazoo to have to send a unit to another channel for an alpha-page or a records search when you could perform the necessary task from the radio terminal if you had the right equipment. It frustrates them too, because they never seem to know who can do what on which channel. We hoped that giving the road units the laptops with MDT capability and the PC-based BULLET system that is better and newer than the one we have in the comm center would cut down on the amount of work we have to do. <heavy sigh> I say give us one laptop for each workstation with the CAD software on it and we will show you how those puppies bark. :-) Michele Hriciso Brevard County Sheriff's Office, FL www.thecluster.com E911Tigger@...
