Hi ,

The reason I asked is that some of your descriptions sound a lot like VCD. Which reminds me I am remiss in getting out my informational email. I am going to add you to my list of people to send this to. The breathing exercises may help. Look for my email either later today or in the morning. Probably in the morning as the kids will be gone and I will have quiet time to do it. I think it may prove interesting for you. Anyone else who hasn't already asked to be included who would like to learn more about VCD let me know off group and I will be happy to add you to the list. Hi Madeline:

Wow, this varies quite alot, depending on what I'm exposed to and how long. It could be

high or deep in the chest, sometimes I'll get symptoms that mimick a bad cold like watery

eyes, sneezing. For that I use loratadine (Claritin 10mg. Non-Drowsy).

Otherwise sometimes I'll use diphenhydramine (prescription Benadryl) doesn't contain the

other junk in the OTC formulas, for pollen primarily in the late spring. Also works for rash

from plant oils, instead of using methylprednisone. DIRT CHEAP 50mg capsules.

Anything that causes constriction in my chest, now it's Proventil HFA. God how I miss my

CFC Ventolin inhalers!!! They were so much more effective, IMMEDIATE relief! The HFA

inhalers don't work as well, even with a spacer for me (it's like a large chamber).

For constriction AND inflammation, from pollen, mold, I need Advair 250/50 for 3-4 weeks.

That's when I have prolonged symptoms (asthma episode lasts more than 2-3 days). This

feels like the center of my chest. I gargle real good, no thrush!

I feel some pain in the throat, congestion, and chest tightness (constriction) then I use my

inhaler. When I get an attack I feel it in the upper chest mostly, start coughing usually. I

use the nebulizer in the mornings with DuoNeb if my peak flow is too low. I can feel it when

I wake up, then blow into my hand-held pf meter 3x to confirm, using the average reading.

Hope this helps everyone!

Hi ,

When you get these sudden attacks what are your symptoms? Is it high in the chest? Is there any pain in your throat-jaw area? Madeline http://health. groups.yahoo. com/group/ Lungs_on_ Vacation/

Hi Ann:I find it's not the amount, it's whatever chemicals are in it. I canalmost bathe in some perfumes, others will put me in the hospital ifI don't get away fast enough and stop being exposed. I'm subject tosuch a broad spectrum of man-made irritants (chemicals, etc.) plusnatural allergens it can be hard just going about everyday life. I'malso sensitive to certain sunscreens, all car and air fresheners. Ihave also gotten hit bad with scents on garbage bags, other products. If I react, I'll know to avoid it in the future. Driving down theroad is horrible sometimes, the diesel and nitrous oxides (NOX)justsuck the oxygen right out of me, cause immediate constriction. I'llstart coughing violently and open the windows no matter the weatherto ventilate and dilute what got in the car as fast as possible.>> > > > While I normally wouldnt tell someone they cant wear something, I do think that if the driver asked her to please wait until after she got off the bus to apply the perfume, that was a reasonable request. However...maybe there is a reason why she couldnt wait to put the perfume on...such as maybe its a scent in a bath product. IF she really did say "it doesnt say scent free" then thats just being rude and highly inconsiderate. If Madeline was to come visit or I was to visit her, I know eucalyptus sets her off so I would not use my regular bath stuff that day b/c it does smell like Eucalyptus.. .even though I really dont smell it anymore. I know that someone who is not used to it would smell it b/c I remember how strong it smelled when I first started using it.

Which leads me to another point...> > If you put perfume on, and you smell it yourself, chances are you have too much on. Some people seem to bathe in the stuff...which is when it really becomes a problem. It only takes one or two sprays to smell nice...more than that really gets to be overpowering. > > MOST perfumes dont bother me...but man those rose scented perfumes will get me every time. Candles from Yankee Candle are ok...so long as they arent rose scented...or anything near rose scented. I have one perfume that is made from the lilacs up home when they are past peak. Its a homemade perfume and is made from the flowers so its very limited in suppy but it smells SOOO good. Two sprays is all I ever use when I use it, Ive had the same bottle for 3 yrs now...> > As far as the chemical cotents, I dont think that we will ever really avoid them. Theres chemicals in our food, our toothpaste, regular soap, the

things we store our food in (although when I worked for a plastics company, we had to prove our bottles did not leach chemicals into their contents...and under pressure from the bpa folks, changed their plastics...now all we have done is change bpa for some other unknown chemical)... plastic or canned goods. I saw something recently that said of all the air fresheners people could put in their cars, the new car scent was the most toxic. Personally I never did like that "scent"...I always went for those cinnaberry trees..> > Ann>

Hi, Madeline. Willothewispl here. Yes, I would like to be put on your VCD list. I have been feeling some of these symptoms also. Has anyone's voice changed? I have a low voice anyway, but it has gotten lower even. I don't think I could scream if I wanted to. Maybe a good scream would help it out, then again, maybe it would tear my vocal cords. What to do, what to do?
