OMG! You never were hyper! You should have never been on tapazole. Something else was causing your tachycardia and tremors. Anemia is one possible cause. Do you have serum ferritin or other iron tests?

Be aware that food animals such as cattle and hogs are allowed to be injected, often within hours of slaughter, with drugs that can cause cardiac reactions in vulnerable individuals.

I get similar reactions when I have testing with iodinated contrast, when I consume coconut oil, tropical fruits or chia seeds. Also cherries. Yellow and other food and drug dyes do the same to me.

Have you had massive bleeding in childbirth or miscarriage? A head or neck injury?

If you would like to post your location, we may be able to recommend a doc who might be able to help you.

Read Dr. Brownstein's books on Thyroid Disorders and Iodine, Why you need it, why you can't live without it. I bought mine off Amazon used very cheap. It is a great place to start. These books will really help you understand the disorder and what to do about it. Also, how to understand the testing and numbers. Good luck to you. I'm in desperate need of help. I've been diagnosed with everything from hyper to Hashi's. I feel hypo (gain weight easily, extremely hard to lose weight, hair falling out, tired). Could someone help me by looking at my history below and giving me their perspective? My counts are currently "normal". If I do have Hashi's, I've read that it should be treated with desiccated thyroid. Any suggestions/experience with that?

July-Nov 2002

T-3 uptake: 20 (22-35)

T-4 Free: .9 (.8-1.8)

TSH: 1.34 (.4-5.5)

Diagnosed with hyperthyroidism based on symptoms of fast heart rate, shaking hands and tacchacardia.

Prescribed beta blocker and Tapazole (25mg)

Felt HORRIBLE. Gained about 25 pounds over 3 months, could barely get out of bed, hair falling out.

Nov 2002 - Oct 2003

Free T4: .91 (.73-1.95

TSH: 3.6 (.3-5.1)

No T-3 tested

Dose lowered to 10mg.

Still felt bad.

Oct 2003

Still on 10mg Tapazole, still feeling horrible, switched doctors.

T-3 Uptake: 23.9 (25-35)

TSH: 1.0 (.3-4.5)

T3 Total: 132 (86-187)

Free T4: 1.6 (.8-2)

Taken off Tapazole

May 2004

Free T4: 1.5 (.8-2)

TSH .2 (.3-4.5)

Restarted Tapazole at 10mg

Endo recommended radioactive iodine treatment to completely kill off thyroid and start Synthroid treatment.

Still feeling bad, independently decided to stop Tapazole treatment and not see that endo again

Aug 2005

Started with new endo

Free T4: 1.1 (.73-1.95)

TSH: .2 (.3-5.1)

Free T3: 2.5 (2.3-4.2)

***TPO: >1000 (<35)***

Thyroid Stimulating AB: 97 (0-129)

***Iododine uptake scan reveals underactive thyroid function***

Diagnosed with thyroiditis

No meds prescribed - wait and see

Yearly testing - normal results

Most recent:

Oct 2011

TSH: 2.8 (.2-5.1)

Free T4: 1.12 (.73-1.95)

I'm in Frisco (north of Dallas), if you have any doctor recommendations, I would

definitely appreciate it!!!

I feel the same way about the Tapazole. I feel like it " broke " me. It made me

feel horrible and I put on so much weight in such a short amount of time that I

haven't been able to lose since.

I've never had any iron tests as far as I'm aware. No massive bleeding,

miscarriage or neck injury.

Right now I feel mostly hypo (still gaining weight easily, tired all the time,

hair falling out), but my TSH test results are showing everything is normal. I

would like someone to tell me if everything is actually normal or not.

A TSH of 2.8 is far from normal.I'm sure that Jan will recommend Dr. Spurlock in Dallas for you. I have been seeing him, and recently got my husband in to see him. He does not take insurance, but he is worth every dime. His office is called Renewed Vitality. http://www.renewedvitalitymd.com/

I have a friend who has able to get in to see Dr. Spurlock within 10 days of calling.Susie

Your Free T-4 is within " range " but actually in the dirt compared to the

Free T-4 of a person who feels well. You need to have your Free T-3

tested as well, but based on the low T-4 and your symptoms, a good

thyroid doctor would be willing to treat. Endos are NOT good thyroid

doctors 99% of the time.

Isn't that sad? We go to them for expert advice, but I feel like as soon as

they see your test results and they are in the " normal " range, they ignore

everything else. Thank you for the reply! I'm learning so much about why I'm

not feeling well.
