Guest guest
Hi there!! *waves* I recently had annual blood work done and because of a weight gain of 10 lbs over 2 weeks (6 months prior that I never followed up on) my GP ran some additional thyroid tests. In a nutshell I'm 40, TSH is right around 3 -so " normal " Free T-3 and T-4 are on the lower side of the normal ranges However I have Thyroid antibodies in the 300-500 range. I've since lost most of those 10 lbs and my doc said we should just watch it and re-test in a few months since I appear to be " symptomless " . Although we are doing an ultrasound because I have some neck pain. I've done a brief search and I'd like to go a little deeper with this before I decide on a *wait and see* approach. I'm generally loathe to take prescription meds but I have a shellfish allergy and supplements make me nervous since some of them use shellfish derived gelatin for their capsules. So I'm looking for a doctor - endo or DO (although I like my GP -so not sure how the DO fits in there) that will be fairly progressive with my options and not just write a scrip for the rep that he sees the most (cynical I know) TIA
Guest guest
I was severely hypothyroid with a TSH of 3.4. I never did get my hypothyroid diagnosis. I was actually glad to be diagnosed with thyroid cancer, because that got me the right to thyroid meds for life. With nodules that cause neck pain, you are not free of symptoms. Find Thyroid Manager online and read the chapter on Hashimoto's thyroiditis. The section on treatment suggests suppression of the TSH to between 0.3 and 1.0. Some good alternative docs like it even lower. Make sure you get copies of the ultrasound report as well as all lab reports. A suppressive dose of thyroid hormone gives you about a 50% chance of shrinking small nodules. >> Hi there!! *waves*> I recently had annual blood work done and because of a weight gain of 10 lbs over 2 weeks (6 months prior that I never followed up on) my GP ran some additional thyroid tests.> In a nutshell I'm 40, > TSH is right around 3 -so "normal"> Free T-3 and T-4 are on the lower side of the normal ranges> However I have Thyroid antibodies in the 300-500 range. > > I've since lost most of those 10 lbs and my doc said we should just watch it and re-test in a few months since I appear to be "symptomless". Guest guest
Thanks for the input. Yeah -the neck pain had a specific beginning/cause so it may or may not be related. I have my ultrasound tomorrow. I've read that less than 1 is a good goal for women my age. I'll check out the reading material you suggested. I'm making an appt with an endo I found on the list here. I'd like to try a DO but can I see a DO for just my thyroid? > > > > Hi there!! *waves* > > I recently had annual blood work done and because of a weight gain of > 10 lbs over 2 weeks (6 months prior that I never followed up on) my GP > ran some additional thyroid tests. > > In a nutshell I'm 40, > > TSH is right around 3 -so " normal " > > Free T-3 and T-4 are on the lower side of the normal ranges > > However I have Thyroid antibodies in the 300-500 range. > > > > I've since lost most of those 10 lbs and my doc said we should just > watch it and re-test in a few months since I appear to be " symptomless " . > Although we are doing an ultrasound because I have some neck pain. > > > > I've done a brief search and I'd like to go a little deeper with this > before I decide on a *wait and see* approach.
