I hope you will join me today in calling our representatives in Congress, both state and federal, as well as media, and ask them to watch this press conference live online today, 10 am central.For too many years, we have played the supplicant -- begging, pleading, asking, cajoling -- for help in obtaining services for children who are affected by autism and for better research to determine the causes of autism so that we can stop this epidemic in its tracks. These pleas have fallen on deaf ears and aside from better awareness, we are NO BETTER OFF than we were a decade ago. Please call and in your

own words, let your government know their response to this public health crisis has been completely unacceptable. It's time to demand action! Enough with the kum-ba-yah. It's getting us nowhere fast. Autism has risen roughly 12 percent annually for two decades. We are not doing anything differently to prevent new cases so there is no reason to believe they are going to "level off" and even if they do, one in 88 or two percent of boys is an unacceptable high number. If the numbers continue to rise as they have for so long now, children born today will develop autism at a rate of one in 23.Whatever your views on causation, I think we can all agree that what we are doing now is getting us nowhere. I am going to compile a list of phone numbers and post it in a few minutes. Also, I'm planning to fax a picture of as a baby with the message "My one in 88. NOT born with it!" Your message might be different. I'm not stopping with today, either. This is the beginning of a relentless upsurge in the demand for federal response. Please be a part of it. Otherwise you need to start raising not only the $3.2 million it might cost to care for your already-affected child, you can start raising $3.2 million for each grandchild they or their siblings might give birth to.Regards,

Monday, on World Autism Awareness Day, representatives from autism organizations from around the country are gathering for a press conference in Manhattan to demand an appropriate response to the autism pandemic. You can help from home by calling your state and federal Representatives, and local media first thing on Monday morning and voicing your support for this effort.

"Most of these children were not born this way."

"It's urgent that you watch and cover this press conference given by autism organizations representing tens of thousands of families."

It's time for our federal agencies to be held accountable for being asleep at the switch while, for three decades, the most urgent health crisis facing the nation has spiraled out of control, already claiming a generation of children.
