Guest guest
Hi Leanne, I am so upset. I just ask my husband how many trips up and down the porch would make 1/2 mile ( so I could keep up with Sher) he said about 30 or 40 times.... THAT was more information than I wanted. I am so proud when I make it 4 times.. SHOOT now I have to reprogram my oxygen deprived brain. I don't think I'll talk to him the rest of the night. ( starting after dinner). I think I'll take a lawn chair and walk the yard that porch does not have the appeal it did an hour ago. My daughter says " Mom I know your tired but as long as your saturation is good the rapid heart rate is good for you. " I'm looking for duct tape. Oh to be 32 again.. Guest guest
Diane, My heart is around 92-98 at rest most of the time. It went to 120 because I walked about 40 feet. Does everyone with restrictive lung disease have a faster heart beat? When I go for my evaluation I will for sure find out if there is heart involvement. Joyce >> Hi Joyce - you said your heart rate was 120....was that when you were sitting? If so, that is a fast rate....our hearts speed up when we are doing something strenuous....if your heart pumps fast all the time, it will get larger to compensate and then the heart loses it muscle tone...that's what happens when someone is in heart failure. So, if your rate goes up when you are walking or climbing steps, that is a normal response.....but you don't want a fast heart rate all the time....> > --> Diane Quinlan > dianequinlan@... > scoliosis/PF/2004>

Guest guest
A normal resting heart rate can be anywhere from 60-90....usually, people who are in very good shape have lower heart rates. I just checked my heart rate while I was on the computer and it was 80....I don't think it really means anything if your heart rate is 90. What is scary is when it's pounding because we can't catch our breath. I HATE that!! --Diane Quinlan dianequinlan@... scoliosis/PF/2004

Guest guest
I don't understand the prednisone unless you have an infection then I know it is what you need. My Pulnonary Dr. said ones with IPF have usually have infected lungs, and prednisone helps the inflammation/infection. I also told him I had heard that weight loss was unatainable on prednisone. He said to some it was, but most choose not to exercise or eat properly to loose that weight. And blame it on prednisone. Guess that means no chocolate cake and ice cream, as the only exercise I'd do after that would be rockin' in a rockin' chair. kiss kiss, ~Ginger~
Guest guest
Hey, Everybody: I am back!!!! I have spent the last few hours going over all these posts. You all sure have been busy and it sounds like you all had a great phone chat. I also noticed a few people mentioned having COPD. That is what the specialist in Lexington told me I had. I also called him the day after I seen him and asked him what the name of the disease was he thought I had and he said he wouldn't tell me, because he wanted to be sure before he scared me. Anyway, he did say I did have PF. I am also really worried about this enlarged heart I have. Does anybody know if it will just go away or am I going to die of heart failure. I love honesty. Give it to me bluntly. , I am so glad everything went well for you at the hospital. How are you doing now? Well, gang, I wonder about me. After four days without a cigarette, I lit up again. This time is different though. The cigarettes are really hurting my chest. They didn't used to do that. After I finish this pack I am smoking....I am quitting again. I hope for good this time. The specialist in Lexington said, if my disease is what he thinks it is, quitting smoking will greatly increase my chances of living. Well, I guess we all will know more the evening of May 22. When I get home that day from going to see the specialist and having all them tests, I will be sure to let everyone know how it went and what the Dr. said. There is one thing I am concerned about...he said he wants to put me on prednisone. (Dang, is that the only steroid there is?) He said he will fix me up with a diabetes specialist who will help me keep my blood sugar down while taking prednisone. Now....He wants me to lose at least 100 lbs., however, after reading all the horror stories on here about prednisone, how am I suppose to lose weight on a drug that makes you gain weight? Suggestions anybody? I also want to say thank you to all of you who wrote me while I was too busy to be online. Guest guest
Barbara, I know it is hard to give up tobacco when you are under so much stress. I can't imagine smoking because I can see smoke and cough my lungs out. I always hated it because I saw what it did to my mother. Listen to your doc. Ask him for help with losing weight and with the cigarette addiction. There is help out there. You HAVE to stop so that you don't die. Tobacco is not your friend! I will pray that you will have strength to do this thing. Don't get discouraged....remember that YOU are in charge here. We here will not give up on you...we are on your side....we want you to live!!! Hugs and prayers, Joyce > Hi Joyce - you said your heart rate was 120....was that when you were sitting? Guest guest
Barb - please don't finish that pack of cigarettes....stop now. You have to find another way to deal with this stress....cause it doesn't get any easier. Use the patch if you have to...but stop smoking!! --Diane Quinlan dianequinlan@... scoliosis/PF/2004
