Guest guest
Ok - now my interest in piqued. I only read the first post on this subject and unfortunately, recently set up my email to delete upon closing my email program (which I just reversed). Can someone fill me in (no pun intended) on this and what you need to do to start this hydrocolonic therapy? Does it stop (even if eventually) accidents? How interfering is it with life? Do you spend days in the house when you first start this therapy and is it something that is prescribed or do you have to be followed by a physician for this? I once had a doctor offer to help me with something similar but I would have to agree to x-rays every so many days to see how much I was " emptying " . I just couldn't stand the thoughts of going to the doctor/hospital for intestinal pictures to see how much was still inside me - one area of deterioration that I am not handling well. Kathy Colonic Inertia I just came across this abstract regarding colonic irrigation. And couldn't wait to share it with all of you. I am assuming it is the same as hydrocolonic therapy. If I am wrong please let me know. Marti http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19104513
Guest guest
No Kathy, you do not need a prescription, although it would be awesome if we could get insurance to pay for it...hmmm. That machine that someone posted a link to is virtually the same thing and it looks like that can be done at home and that insurance may pay for that if prescribed by a doc. But I didnt look at the price, was afraid to as I'm pretty positive Medicare wont cover it. Â I know someone posted something about colonic practitioners not being regulated etc. so yes, you have to find someone that you trust and check into their background if necessary or verify their education. Most of them are not doctors, no. Most are massage therapists or other holistic type health workers. This is not like a colonoscopy where a 6 ft tube is inserted in the intestine, this is a small insert into the rectum, doesnt even extend past the inner sphincter. They allow small amounts of water, in and out, it is not uncomfortable, it is not certainly not painful. It is a bit time consuming but no more than a bowel program and a LOT more comfortable. Maybe 45 min to an hour. If you dont " clear " everything while you are there then you may have to hang close to a toilet for a few hours but this is not something that ties you up for days. Like the machine, they too can " milk " the tubing to tone the bowel, even a paralysed bowel, to help the inertia become lessoned over time. As for stopping accidents, just like a bowel program, when you are empty there isnt anything to leak so and if you are toning the bowel I believe it could lead to lessened incontinence over time. I have had success for over 10 years with the simple warm water bottle enema. You can buy the kit cheap at Walgreen's or CVS or probably about any pharmacy for less than $20.00 US. There are many methods, see what works for you. Google " enema " for some suggestions. This is a SERIOUS issue but to add a little humor to it check out: http://www.poopreport.com/Consumer/index.html one of the sites I found on google Rick
