IPF is an autoimmune disease or can be caused by one. I took it for years for Lupus but could only tolerate low doses

My Dr. says that IPF is of UNKNOWN source, and that PF is an autoimmune disease. Does he have it backwards?

Goodmorning Guys, Just wanted to let you know, When I go to Dr. wed am trying to get into Vanderbiltstudy, cross your fingers.A little prayer wouldn't hurt. Have a wonderful day. janne5303 wrote: Ginger: My Dr. says that IPF is of UNKNOWN source, and that PF is an autoimmune > disease. Does he have it backwards I have read excellent reports that take both views..which leaves patients wondering. This is one that I put on as a link the other day. I also am going to discuss this with my pulmonary guy this week. Hugs, Joyce Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

(IPF) by Ron Kennedy, M.D., Santa , California Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is an autoimmune disease in which inflammation of the lungs results in scarring or fibrosis. This fibrosis can build up to the point where the lungs are unable to provide sufficient oxygen to the body. Autoimmune disorders are caused when the body's immune system, which is meant to defend the body against bacteria, viruses, and other foreign product, malfunctions and produces antibodies against healthy tissue, cells and organs. Doctors use the word "idiopathic" (from the Greek "idio" meaning "peculiar" or "unusual" and "pathy" meaning "illness") to describe the disease, because the cause of IPF is unknown. Currently,

researchers believe that IPF results from autoimmunity as an after-effect of an infection, most likely a virus. Whatever the trigger for IPF, it sets off a series of events in which the inflammation, immune activity in the lungs, and the fiberoptic process become uncontrollable. In a few cases, heredity appears to play a part, possibly making some individuals more likely than others to get IPF>> > > > IPF is an autoimmune disease or can be caused by one. Azathiorine: those of you taking Azathiorine (Imuran) remember that you have a comprimised immune system. You are wide open to bacteria and fungus...so wash those hands and keep away from runny noses, etc.

Joyce

I thought it was "Azathioprine"? Or is it AZATHIORINE?

You are still a hero to me.

Joyce,

Thank you. You always manage to make me feel so good when I need it. All is going well except my feet look like two turtles. Went to my Rheumatologist, she wants me cut back on the prednisone. I take 20 mg daily, she wants me to go 5mgs in AM and 10mgs at PM for a week then 5mgs AM and 5mgs PM. She feels that may be the cause of my swollen feet and ankles. I can barely walk, some ays. This has been going on for about a month. And she says the cytoxin is for the inflamation so it doesn't need the prednisones help. lol!!! Had my cytoxin today. Sooo tired all the time....But all of you will never know what joy you bring me in some of your posts. Grey, you keep me hanging on.

Hi Ginger, Thanks for the pat on back. My feet and legs have been swelling for a long time. Before predisone. Doctors won't say whats causing it. I finally backed off of predisone completely. I have a friend who takes it a week at the time and then backs off. He has a lot of back pain and said it makes him feel better while taking predisone. I have a daughter who used to take it during rag weed season for asma. I backed off because it run my blood sugar up over 275. Now its back at 125. I don't eat sweets. I feel like diabeties and the things that go along with it has caused my feet and leg trouble. I start rehab today at 2:00PM. I hope that helps. Have a 3:00PM app with kidney surgeon tomorrow. Hang in there girl and may god bless. Grey

Re: Re: Digest Number 184

Ginger, I hope and pray you have an easy time coming off the prednisone. I'll be praying for you. My feet were swelling but not to the degree of yours. I could only cut back 5mg every two weeks. I think I'm just wimpy. God Bless and lighten your load. Peggyon 5/1/06 11:20 PM, TongueDancer2U@... at TongueDancer2U@... wrote:

Ginger, Do you have foot and leg pain when sitting in a chair. My pain comes and goes. Some days are better than others. It gets bad sometimes. It could be gout. Some days I get so weak I have to have a cane to walk. Take care and god bless. Grey

The pain I experience Grey, is from the swelling. As if my skin is going to pop. If I elevate my feet, they go down alot. But I can not stay like that 18 hrs. out of everyday! Or rather I WON'T! They did a 2-D Echo to rule out heart problems. And did a 24 hr. urine catch to be tested to rule out kidneys. I am really thinking it's from the diabetes, as mentioned before. They put me on 2.5mg of Zaroxolyn( a diuetic) to take every other day. Along with my 40mg of Lasix (another diuretic)

which I take on tablet every day and 2 every other day.

Needless to say I LIVE in the Powder Room every other day.

I am so weak all the time....it is all I can do to get around. I had my cytoxin (chemo) treatment yesterday. Today, all my muscles ache and burn. Between my shoulders and elbos, elbo and wrists, hips and knees, knees and swollen ankles. Has broke me to tears...have never had this problem with muscles....may just come with the territory. But this group keeps my spirits soaring. Thank ya'll. (Texas slang for you all)

May God continue to use you each to touch and bless the hearts of others as yu do here.

kiss kiss,

~Ginger~

Gray, I have had foot and leg pain almost from beginning. Ortho. Dr. said caused by lack of O2. Also have severe cramps in calf muscles. All points to oxy levels going down. I sometimes use a walker just to motivate. TongueDancer2U@... wrote: Ginger, Do you have foot and leg pain when sitting in a chair. My pain comes and goes. Some days are better than others.

Hello Barb, You haven't heard from me in a couple of days. My computer went into a loop on start up mode and had to reload it and my son put all programs that he could remember back on. I or rather he saved your messages and I am trying to catch up. These pop ups keep coming up trying to sell you something. They claim to be part of msn. Boy this is a trashed up world. Got to go. Supper time. Grey

Hey, Grey: Look on your toolbar and see if you have an option to stop popups. That is what I use and I really like it.
