Guest guest
Annette, I tried to find the article for you, but was unable to locate. Within the past 2 years, there was a Police Chief here in California that was fired and charged for unlawfull use of CLETS (CA Law Enforcement Teletype System) and NCIC/NLETS. He was having dispatchers run subjects, drivers license and vehicles registered to for, if I remember right, a private investigator. I don't know what your laws in Texas are, but here in California there are several laws pertaining to access to law enforcement teletypes as well as the federal laws for NCIC, etc. As others have pointed out, document, document, document. I think I would advise the person of the violation and if they " ordered " you, I would advise them that you are documenting the incident but will comply. Keep that paper trail secure to cover yourself. Does the state of Texas do audits of transactions you run on the teletype? If so, you might bring it to the attention of the powers that be as to what it happening. Not worth a dispatcher being fired, fined or imprisonment for someone ordering you to do something unlawful. Good luck. Behr Univ of CA Police Dept. Riverside, CA
