Guest guest
Rita, I was put on Imuran to help lowering the doses of prednisone. It was supposed to help with the symptoms. I was on it 8 weeks and had to stop it. My liver enzymes were off. Yes it is used with transplant. their are several drugs they can use. According to my nursing book, an immunosuppressant is an agent capable of suppressing immune responses. Immunosuppression is the inhibition of the formation of antibodies to antigens that may be present -- and they are used in transplants. ---- so, this doesn't tell me why PF and IPF patients would be using the drug! Is it supposed to prevent further damage to the lungs? Guest guest
This is also my understanding, but I gather there is an increasingly strong opinion trend suggesting that IPF may not be an immune system disease and therefore that azathioprine may not help at all. My husband has been taking it for a month and, to be honest, we are not seeing any dramatic improvements. topamo escribió: Hi Rita, they believe that the scarring in our lungs is a reslt of our own immune systems attacking our lungs and so they hope surrpressing this response will slow the progression of the disease. The preacher finished his dinner and stood out in the yard and rubbed his belly and told farmer brown what a blessing god had bestowed upon him with such a beautiful farm. Farmer brown said....You should have seen it before I came along. Have a good night Grey Re: Imuran Hi Rita, they believe that the scarring in our lungs is a reslt of our own immune systems attacking our lungs and so they hope surrpressing this response will slow the progression of the disease.
