Hi.

I have a couple of questions---I'm very new at this----

1. Is it the total # of Carbo's that one counts, or just sugar----what is

the range

2. Is there anywhere on the net that list calories, fats, and sugars of

foods?

Thanks for all you help

The total. 15gm is a standard exchange. How many you need depends

on a pot of factors. 15gm is one regular slice of bread, half a roll, or

about a teaspoon of sugar. I find that 3-4 units at breakfast, one

in the AM 3-4 at lunch, 2-3 at dinner and 1 before bed keeps

me stable, but I am type 1 and taker insulin twice a day, and

eat about 2400 Cal per day, which is likely way more than you need.

There are several. I suggest you start at the Diabetes Resource Center:

Dear Members,

I'm happy to say that our list is rebuilding after the recent

problem with deciding whether to have this list be purely informational

or supportive. For the new members, this list chose to be supportive

so please show compassion and help anyone you can with problems.

As you know,I became very upset over some of those who left.

Yesterday was my birthday. We are now back up to 120 members so that

was a special Birthday gift for me.

Love you all.

total Carbs is what counts. All carbs go to sugar at some point in the

digestive process. Fat & protein take longer to digest therefore raise BG's

slower. For a good nutritional program

I just joined here. One of the reasons is because I need support once in a

while. There are several sites where I can get information only but

information by itself is uncompassionate. Compassion is is the element

that defines the difference between a diabetic (the person) and diabetes

(the disease).

Happy day after your birthday, , I like this list. I can get

all the technical information I need elsewhere but this list is about

people and how they can help others and themselves. This is not about

Diabetes, it is about Diabetics. I like the personal touch.

In my opinion, you're doing great. Thanks

- Happy Belated Birthday! My birthday was March 20th. Since the blood

type poll of our diabetics seemed to indicate most of us were type A or type

O, instead of slanted towards type A as Dr. D'Adamo's book would lead you to

believe, maybe we can conclude that 1) he's wrong, 2) I misread his book, or

3) we are a very unique and original group. I lean toward 3).

NOTE: 19 of us reported - 9 type A, 2 type B, 8 type O.I think that's

significant statistically.

Maybe the next poll should be to determine if there is any correlation

between us and birth month. Wouldn't it be wild if we all had March

birthdates? My major in school was mathematics - sometimes it catches up

with me in my older years.

The Copy Cat recipe site was great! It's easy to get lost browsing through

all the recipes. Thanks for sending it.

That is an excellent point, and I am glad you mentioned that. This is why I

like this group so much more than the Lehigh Group, with its constant flames

wars.

There are many low carb approaches to diet these days :) I follow Atkins but

it may be too high in fat for you, There is Berenstein and there is protein

power, and The Zone. Lotsa reading there ! :)

Low fat can be done on a low protein diet but it takes a little more

policing ... even vegetarians can go on Atkins but not too happily, I

wouldn't think. It would become very restrictive ...

Happy Birthday, !

I'm glad you're feeling better about the list :) It's a GREAT list and it

serves a wonderful purpose. There is no way in the world that you can hope

to make everyone happy and there are other lists out there for those people

who don't like the more informal, supportive type list that we have here.

And thats fine too - there is something for everyone out here :)

Thanks for all the hard work you do for us!! I hope you did something

special just for yourself for your BD!

I think it is possible to eat low-carb without subscribing to a special diet or

reading books about it. That is my approach.

I think I have to agree with - With all my food allergies and other

health problems, I find it hard to follow any published diet plan such as

Atkins - If I'm not allergic to a food, it is either restricted on the Heart

plans or the Diabetic meal plans. It has been strictly trial an error for me,

although I have read the Ornish book and the text book I received from the

Nutrition course I took as well as review the foods lists ing the ADA diet

plan. Those helped but meal plans are strictly up to my design - I have to

change all the pre-printed ones anyway.
