Guest guest
My daughter is 13...she refuses to let anyone to anything to her...well I can't say that exactly, she was going through a time where she wouldn't let them draw blood..she would hide under the table or behind the chair and just scream..we would have to have nurses come in and pin her down just to get it done..the last time she went in she let them do it..no problem..but for some reason when it comes to her eyes or teeth she will not let anyone touch her.. I've been seeing the same dentist for the last 7 years, since my daughter was 4. We went twice a year and she wanted to go in by herself. I have two girls so they would take turns and go in by themselves. Last December we went in and they both went in, and they both got the same review as always, " everything looks good, no cavities. " Shyanna had been complaining of a sore tooth so I asked the dentist after he told me if he could see her molars coming in in the back. He said that they have never taken x-rays of Shyanna's teeth because she wouldn't let them?!?!?!?! They never bothered to tell me that. I was pregnant at the time so I couldn't even help them out. I was alittle upset. I have since found a different dentist and Shyanna went a couple of weeks ago for a tooth ache. This dentist was GREAT!! Actually I'm sure it was the hygenist that Shyanna liked, but the dentist included her in the talking to me and showing me the x-rays, it was great. They actually took a panoramic x-ray and she was so awesome during it. Good news, her teeth are awesome, he said whatever we are doing at home, keep it up. She is getting her 12 year molars in 2 spots and he can see she does have one wisdom tooth that may or maynot have to be taken out in the future. He did say that two of her teeth on the top are still baby teeth and by her age she should've lost them. He said it's not a big deal, some people never lose them. As for the eye doctor. That is a fear of any child. I know Shyanna actually sat through getting her eyes dialated better than her sister did. The nurse came in when Shayla was sitting in the chair with a bottle in her hands and Shayla jumped from the chair almost into my arms across the room. We do see a pediatric opthamologist as well, mainly because Shyanna can't read the letter chart. I've never had my eyes dialated so I can't even sympathize with the girls about that one. I know neither one of them like it. Boy am I chatty today. Sorry for such the long email, but I hope I helped a little. How old is your daughter? Bobbie Doctors I was wondering if anyone had any pointers on how to handle a situation that I have been having with my daughter for years and years..she has MDS and she HATES doctors. I can't get her in to see the dentist because she will not lay down in the chair or put her head back for them to check her out...same thing with the eye doctor, she won't let them dialate her eyes...she has been complaining of headaches and I think it might have something to do with her eyes but I can't get her to go see the eye doctor..I hate to put her through things like forcing her to lay down or pinning her down just to get her ears looked at..does anyone have any pointers or any special doctors that might agree to putting her out to have things done? the dentists that I call will not put her out just to check her teeth and they won't open an OR room just for 20mins...we have tried the laughing gas and that has a reverse affect on her..it makes her hyper.. Guest guest
Our dentist has quite a rapport with (8) - when I take to the dentist and it is not her appointment she hops up into the chair and insists that the hygienist look at her (quick) too. She also loves the opthamologist but she will not let him use the tool that gets really close to your eyeball so he can look at/behind them - but I understand because I can't do that either. I am very lucky as is very good for all doctors (except for the orthodontist). But I have decided that if she lets the orthodontist put the jaw expander in next summer (which he tried to do this summer but she refused!) I will let her get her ears pierced. Maybe if you offer an incentive (I know it is a bribe - but don't we all need small bribes - If I lose 10lbs I will by that dress etc..)
