Guest guest
Just getting home from a less than pleasant friday nightwork. On thursday, while playing basketball with my little brother (big brothers/big sisters) I threw my back out (recurring problem due to two herniated [sp?] disks). I was confined to bed from 1400 thursday until 1500 friday, getting up just in time to get ready for work. I was looking forward to getting back in there after being off for 7 days. However, the loons were out last night. My first 6 were spent in Police Comms, and I got hammered. I don't normally have a pending call list, usually the call volume is handled well with the number of officers on duty. Last night there wasn't a moment that at least 2-3 calls were pending, and that included my DWI patrol handling complaints. An odd number of MVA's last night too. The ones that stick out were the Pick Up vs house, and the " No Injury " mva that wound up sending 8 people to trauma. But the kicker occurred during my back 6 while working Fire Desk. A PD in a neighboring county gets a guy for DWI, he is released to third party ROR. The third party idiot in turn lets this guy drive home (Duh!) and he puts his car head on into another on one of our busiest highways, Rt 40 heading to Atlantic City. 3 dead and the lone survivor is an unconscious female head trauma. Medivac down due to weather. 30 minute ground transport could have been 5 by air. On a good note, our county and the state have a decent traffic management diversion plan which we put into effect immediately. Traffic was managed quite well by our county fire police and state DOT. Not a single cellular complaint. That and my mind was on something other than the dull ache in my back. As of 0600 Rt 40 was still shut down, the MVA occurred at 0116 hrs. Ready for bed in NJ J. Guest guest
Two thoughts collide here. a) Herniated disks + basketball ???? Release a DWI to a 3rd party only to have him kill 3 people - What's up with that??? Rich 1010WC " J. Guest guest
Haha, ok smarty,... it's a managable problem. With proper lifting and moving, I don't normally have a problem with it. However, The day prior to playing basketball I rearranged furniture at home, the combination of the moving and the playing weakened the muscles surrounding the disks. I am not going to let manageable condition stop me from having fun. But I do see how I could sound like a moron. Kinda like people who's family has history of lung cancer, and they smoke, uh,.....
