Guest guest
I got the pyramid diet when I was diagnosed (I presume you mean the ADA diabetic exchage diet). It helped control my bg's altho not to what I would have liked them to be and I was hungry and irritable all the time. I had to come on the internet to discover low carbing and it has made a world of diff in my bg!!!! It's awesome. Re: snacks? >From: TR4CI@... > >Hi Theo.... > >The g stands for glucose. Guest guest
When they remove fat they have to replace it with something to make it taste decent... they replace it with sugar. Guest guest
- I go with the fewer carbs. The reason is this -- carbohydrate turns 100% into glucose when metabolized. Fat, I believe is 30% and protein 10%. So the one with fewer carbs will have a lesser effect on your bg.

Guest guest
I was in the Lehigh group, and there was appalling amount of flaming there. I finally got off, because I found out that one of the main flamers there was what he proudly described on his website as a " member of the hacker community " (!) which kind of made my hair stand on end. I thought to myself, if I get this guy riled, he's liable to just crash my computer! So I just left. http://home.talkcity.com/GalleryDr/eduardo/index.html Meenie wrote: > I've been on this list thru onelist for a couple of weeks and there > is NO flaming at all It's great! > > Re: snacks? > > Yaay Fergy!!! Guest guest
Was just on-line with my health team and two of my doctors are now suggesting a balanced diet with about 20 to 30% carbs as the best for a diabetic. This includes some of the products that have minimal sugar in them. What they have found is that people that completely take away sugar and run carbs under 15% have a harder time keeping to the diet and feel the best. Also they are changing their ideas on treatment of diabetes and are taking many diabetics back to insulin from the oral medications as there is better control with a more normal lifestyle. I know when I was changed to insulin almost 12 years ago now my levels were from the 200s to 70 to 85 as a constant average and I do not starve myself either. I have pasta once a week as well as pizza at least once every other week. I even have a small piece of cake or two cookies for a snack at night. Bill Newman -- Rochester, NY wtnewman@... Guest guest
I personally love potatoe salad. Have you ever tried to make it with turnips or rutabagas? Just peel and boil till tender then add egg, mayonaise, mustard a little dill pickle relish and your sweetening of choice (mine is splenda). Salt and pepper to taste and top with paprika. Low Carb and is really delicious. snacks? > > >> >> >>I had my diabetes check in with my two endocrinologists yesterday; they >>think I'm doing well. Guest guest
Maybe jicama would be good too. One thing that adds to the BG counts is the mayonnaise. I bet if you experimented with less mayonnaise, you could get something that is close to the same thing but fewer calories. If you use Miracle Whip, you're really asking for trouble. It is sweet, because it has a lot of sugar. (Another product that sneaks the sugar to you is catsup.) Ann Stagner wrote: > I personally love potatoe salad. Guest guest
There is nothing in mayonaise to raise BG it is eggs, vinegar and oil. Carbs are 0 and sugars are 0. The fat is something I don't worry too much about as my cholestrol is fine. Yes if you use Catsup you need to look for the sugarless type. I know that I was wrong. As for myself, I couldn't use sugarless type things if they contained artificial sweetners, since they make my BG's go up. I have just learned to live without needing to consume anything sweet, except for natural whole fruit, in moderation.
Guest guest
I am alergic to aspartame have you tried Splenda. It is wonderful and I have no reactions to it and my BG's stay down and I can even have icecream or egg custard made with it and its wonderful. If the aspartame people loose their hold on the american diet public splenda will knock it out of the water. Ann S Re: snacks? Guest guest
Reason for the sugar to help cut the acid from the tomatoes. It is actually essential tot he product. Some is even a natural sugar that the ripe tomatoes make themselves. In reading labels you really need to know what the natural values are of certain foods and in many cases the labels are showing the natural and not added contents of the products. ( otherwise it is too spicy and no one will eat it)-basically I just sprinkle it on with a shaker. I put it in the dehrdrator and let it dry overnight. Viola! Delicious beef jerky- low in carbs and fat, and a great snack. the only problem is that everyone else in the house loves it so I have to hide it. (and they still find it!!!!) It is a root vegetable, with a fibrous skin that you peel off (Kinda like a potato skin). I have always had it served in thin strips like planks or very thin slices like water chestnuts. Guest guest
Right now I am eating less than 20 grams of carbohydrates a day.... this is the two week " induction " phase of the atkin's diet. I find this diet easier to stick to than any diet I have ever been on. I have no cravings because there is always something I can eat.
